When I look at a piece to buy, I estimate the yield. The Biggs slab had small usable area but it was thick.I got two preforms from the face and another one after doing the split. I've had a problem with jellybean fracturing so I treated the slab with starbond before trimming.

stardiamond - Like you, I have several rock slabs coated with starbond thin to seep into all those tiny cracks. I've let them sit for the last four or five days. Just not sure what to do next, grind them on a flat lap or tumble them in a rotary. How about you?

starbond thin. It dries very quickly. Everything ends up on the Genie.

This was a splitting fail: I should have got two slabs from the Bruneau. I only got one extra slabette from the heels.

I got a piece of Lion's Den Morgan Hill from Martin Kramer on facebook. I bought from him 20 years ago as philospherstone on ebay. Really beautiful material and the slab was a little over 1/2 inch. My splitting technique needs a lot of work. I keep adjusting the cut when it is off so the cut is hacked up but very usable.
