Good day! I picked up this random big chunk from a rock/yard sale a while back, along with some stony creek and MHPJ. It was only a few bucks so I figured it was worth a shot. It was completely white on the outside but I saw a glimpse of blueish so I had hope something of interest was inside. After the first slice it was obvious that the outside was sun bleached and lost it's color. The part that looks like agate is quite hard and didn't clearly scratch with a file but the floating chunks are a bit softer and will scratch with a file (maybe opal?). I wasn't able to capture the true color but these pictures are pretty close. Maybe burro creek? The brecciated pattern is reminiscent of some images of Tiffany stone but that is likely wishful thinking haha. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If I picked it up off of my shelf, I would have said Burro.

I'll admit...I looked at the pic before reading what you wrote! LOL
My instantaneous thought was Burro Creek due to that brecciated material. It totally reminds me of some Burro Creek material I have...

I wonder if Tommy has seen this in BC?
I'm not convinced it's BC. I think it's from much further North.

Ah good to know, most the Google images for burro creek agate were just solid agate and not brecciated, making me unsure about it before I posted it.

Looks like Burro Creek to me. Thanks James! That's what my gut was telling me but the brecciation was throwing me off.

I have not seen or collected anything quite like that but one thing I've learned about BC is it's a vast area and very diverse on types of rocks. Some of my coolest pieces from there have been one-off rocks that caught my eye for whatever reason. AzRockGeek has been there many many times.

There's something in that brecciated portion at the top right in that first photo that, which to me, looks very similar to the type of brecciated material in the pieces Tommy posted in this thread: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/87237/pastelite-jasperI know the overall piece isn't the same...but the structure of the brecciation looks eerily similar (to me) as well as the brecciated material itself...again "to me". LOL *Sidenote: Where's the pics of the MHPJ!

All this talk about Burro creek is making me want to plan a trip out there to do some hounding!

Looking back I probably overpaid for the MHPJ but the great deal I got on that burro creek chunk, a large stony creek one and a few dirt cheap Brazilians more than made it a good deal overall.

I'm no expert, but I have collected enough Burro Creek material (been hounding there every year for at least 5 years or more) to say that what you see listed as Burro Creek Agate is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. There is such a variety of material there, and much of it is underrated. When I saw the picture, I immediately thought of Burro Creek. It looks just like some I have, but do ya think I could find it in my mess? No...lol. It looks like a combination of pastelite and Damsonite, which is a name for the purple material that isn't as gemmy purple as agate. The Pastelite is softer but will shine with some work and patience. That is a beautiful rock you got for sure. If I find that one I have like it, I will try to remember to post a picture. I'll be moving soon so might run across it while packing.

Yes I'd love to see the picture of that rock if you run across it! You are very welcome. A lot of people go out there to rockhound but there is a lot of material to be found including some purple agate that has yet to be "discovered". Don't let anyone tell you there isn't any more of the purple to be found there. It is true that the Bagdad mine has fenced off and covered over the original 'cave' where the original purple agate came out but that was just one spot of many. I've even been told that the material I picked up myself in that area wasn't from Burro Creek and that was from older rockhounds who had collected there "back in the day". If you do ever get to go there it's a real treat. If I'm around then please do send me a message so I can give you some pointers. Still looking for that piece but it may be a while and of course there's always the possibility that my boyfriend cut that piece up without my knowing.
