1 Yes 2 (6987) No, I believe most of that blue green would be too soft to tumble 3 (7286) Looks like it should. That big piece is awkward and probably should be broken up or sawed into smaller pieces 4 (6997) I don't know but I really want to know what that material is because it looks really interesting and VERY promising.....please tell us! 5 I'm leaning towards no, the way it's showing that flaking off look makes me lean towards it'll do the same when tumbling and have issues, I could be wrong? Any ideas what it is? 6 (6641) Some pieces look like they would tumble well, others are a tough shape to tumble. The vugs, if you want to preserve them, might be better suited for other methods....i'm no expert though.. 7 (6752) Yes, hard material but they should take a killer shine. Similar to #1 8 (6644) Maybe, looks like some kind of feldspar variety and may bruise easily. Others have tumbled moonstone successfully. Just my

Any chance you can give us the name of the vendor? The 3rd picture looks like stuff looks very similar to Dead Camel jasper. I don't tumble, so no help with your tumbling questions, but I do know that some folks here have tumbled big stones. There are threads on them.

iamchris - If you're concerned about the size of these for tumbling in the barrels you have, this might be a great reason to pick up a 7" wet tile saw from the hardware store. A little checking, and you'll probably be able to find one in the $70 range. You can get a decent blade for cutting rocks on eBay in the $22 range (I use a DeWalt XP4) and for less than $100 you've got a tool to break down medium sized rough...one that will last you a long time. I've had mine for years... Pawn shops or Craigslist are a great places to look for these saws also. People buy them for one "household" project, then get rid of them...

Thank you, jasoninsd. I was thinking about doing that, but I am already over my allocated tool space in the garage, haha. While I could, I think I'm going to try playing it slow for once in my life. Thanks to all the people posting all the cool cabs and wire wraps (thanks a lot for your numerous offenses in this area, you are a prime offender), I've also been very interested in cabbing. I'm going to try my hardest to wait until September when the Rochester Lapidary Society resumes, and see if I can dip my toes in the water before I buy any more tools. I know the $70 isn't too much, but I was hoping I could also show up there as a new member with the rough and see if any poor saps would help a n00b not sever their digits. Does that sound like a smart strategy or are my expectations unreal? Thanks!

Depending on who and what, I'm sure there's going to be someone who's willing to spend the time.
