Hello everyone, Nice to see such an active forum! So being new, I decided to buy one of the VEVOR Model no: KD-C3011 3Lb Tumbler Kit seemed to have just come out. Comes with a couple of boxes of "gem" rocks, twenty in total. 3 - 60g grit backs; 320#, 600#, 800# and brightening powder. Also, 600g of Ceramic abrasive that are round and green, the size of a small pea. Comes with instructions for the 7-day process at different speeds. So this is my first adventure into rock tumbling. Learning that, depending on the grit size, depends on rock hardness. Then the debate on using ceramic abrasives and how much. I presume these provided "gem" stones are soft. So I guess I'll see what happens at the end of the process.

Welcome from Rochester, NY!
I'm another newcomer, but those grits don't seem to line up with what I'd expect. I second the recommendation for Michigan Rocks.
This video is a good one to get started with:

Welcome from Utah. I was never a tumbler, and old age has caught up with me so I don't do much of anything any more. I do enjoy seeing what others do.

I was really into playing pool for most of my life...and songs referencing pool are few and far between. That's the first time I've heard that one! Thanks for posting that obscure song!!

Welcome tradenet! I think you will need to order a coarse grit to start out with. Save the ceramics for medium-late stages. Have you watched any youtube videos? That can be a good learning resource. Yes, that's what I am gathering from some of the YouTube videos. Thx.

Welcome from south Georgia! I don't know about that particular tumbler, but I know with most tumblers that have speed settings you're going to want to use the slowest setting unless you want bruised and fractured rocks. I've never heard of someone wanting the "distressed" look in polished rocks but ya never know! I hope you enjoy your foray into a new hobby!

I echo the others suggestions-watch Michigan Rocks videos on Youtube. I just started tumbling in February and Rob’s videos were invaluable to me. I watch them over & over while making copious notes. lol
And welcome from lower Michigan!
