My cousin got into tumbling a while back. She used up the grit and rough that came with her 1st tumbler, then shelved it because "grit is too expensive!". Her birthday is coming up soon, so I'm planning to give her a gift card to a lapidary supply store for grit, along with a few pounds of easy-to-tumble rough. I'm just not sure what rough would be best. I know her favorite color is green, but she doesn't like her birthstone (peridot). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I second Ashley's suggestion of the rock shed!! Great grit/polish and a great selection of tumbling rocks to choose from. Just (IMO) avoid common green opal. Does not tumble (or do anything) well at all!

Thanks for the suggestions. My first thoughts for something green were aventurine, bloodstone, or kambaba, but I wasn't sure how easily any of those would tumble. I usually get my grits from Kingsley North, too.

I'll chime in giving a vote to The Rock Shed for grit or a gift card. I'd trust Shawn and his family giving them card info over the phone. I'll also second ashley's suggestion of Bloodstone...or even Fancy Jasper...which sometimes gets misidentified as Bloodstone. Last time I was over at The Rock Shed (I'm just around the corner), they had a decent supply of Fancy Jasper then.

How's The Rock Shed's processing and shipping time? My concern is that I'm in Ohio and I kinda want to have something in hand for her party on Sunday (7/30). Yes, I know this whole idea is last-minute!
