Tried this new place on the Green River, WA from looking for gravel bars on satellite maps. Not far from home, there are plenty of gravel bars for the picking, but I'm still struggling to scout dry rocks and I keep forgetting my water bottles... I think the water is really low and there is a lot of algae and growth on the shallow rocks. Still, it was nice to get out and really dig around for a while.
There was hardly anyone out here and I had this area to myself for about an hour. Managed to find a little swimming hole as well
This pet wood looking boulder caught my eye...
As did this, must be what all the fancy desert jaspers start out as. This one was no where near solid enough, but you can see the resemblance.
Told myself only keeping 5 (I have a problem) and these are them.

Looks like a great day to be out. Nice too that it wasn’t a crowded or well known beach.👍

I you never search out and try new places, it gets stale and boring. Unless there is high quality chryso, then I will never get bored.

Looks like a nice spot Chad ! Nice it's close & you can frequent it. Going the same place & watching it change with the seasons (and the water levels), is always interesting.

That is a beautiful place! How do you compare the hounding there vs Lake Michigan? Not as awesome?

khara You ain't kidding, I'm first and foremost looking for a more secluded place, at least for a couple hours in the morning if I have to. Mark K I enjoy looking for a new places, but I still like to find a couple spots that are my go to, kind of what liveoak was talking about, to keep and eye on the changes and notice the little things everytime you come back. To be kind of an expert of the location if nothing else. Thanks opalpyrexia Gary, I have entirely too many rocks and the back log isn't going away anytime soon. 5 it is for the time being ashley I like it! It is different, and I have relied on the lake to show off the rocks more than I knew. Everything either looks white or brown and I don't have the trained eye for the patterns, or shine? yet. I get the feeling after a dozen more times I'll be able to start spotting what might be considered good tumbling material. So in short, there is more material and it's very obvious when I look close and pay attention, especially if I compare on average to what I saw in the big lake, I just don't know how to spot it yet, all the little things that became second nature before.

I had met someone out this way and we decided if we were going to get serious, one of us would have to take the plunge. Luckily everything came together on my end, job, housing, gal. Can't speak to her half of the deal

ashley says Washington rockhounding "not as awesome" as Michigan. You should write for the tourism department! :-)

Hey Chad, keep an eye out for river Jade. I've gotten lots of different flavors from a guy years ago that was getting it out of a WA river.
It's hell to get a polish on - but some beauty blue/green colors. Patty

The search continues...
This one is a bit more promising despite the sea stink and washed up jellyfish. Plus, I found the rockin heart here, so that's a good sign My pockets were stuffed in no time, I'll be more prepared and discerning next time.

Wa coasts are the best I went to Westport with my brother and parents last spring and walked beaches there, getting a ton of agates. Same thing this year with Oregon on a beach that wasn't listed anywhere, 5+pounds of assorted agates, jaspers, and amethyst.

Same thing this year with Oregon on a beach that wasn't listed anywhere, 5+pounds of assorted agates, jaspers, and amethyst. I'm actually trying to keep it low key. I had my honey spots in MI and was a little protective outside this circle.
It's impressive the variety and difference between what I found often, or semi often in Michigan and what seems to be "normal" out here.
Unakite was pretty common as far as nice rocks go, and I was pretty picky after a long time hounding.
I rarely find unakite so far, but there are lots of quartz striped rocks. I'm not completly sure if they are tumbling material or not yet, still need to burn thru the back stock yet.
Hoping to meet up with you and Johnny some day.

Totally understand the feeling. Some day if I'm driving alone, I'm actually going to stop at the rivers/road cuts I see off the highways, they're way too tempting. Colorful quartz and quartz incorporated materials are pretty common out here, and most tumble pretty well. It would be pretty cool to meet you all. Enjoy the Pacific northwest life man.

Back to check out some new areas further down river.
My plan was to head towards the big white cliff in the distance (you can barely see it), figured there might be plenty in the wash where the river meets.
Still don't know if it's old volcanic tuft, or sedimentary, or glacial till...
Anyway, didn't quite make it that far today, this extended rock bank filled my bag enough today.
It's kinda like a lake... 'cept nearly everything is covered in at least a fine layer of algae/mud. Takes a closer eye and a little more finger rubbing, but I found plenty in the is little 30 yard stretch
I'll get some more pics tomorrow when I swap loads.
