It's me! My Thumler UV-10 motor died last year after having replaced it earlier in '22. I bought another new motor but got behind with health issues and set it aside.
So tomorrow I'm expecting a new TV-10 Raytech (bc face it, when is anyone getting Thumlers tumblers back in). Im prepared for the drawbacks od noise but will probably use my UV-10 bowls (i have 2) and I always use bubble wrap under lid to keep noise down and spray off the inner lid.
I'm not exactly sure why it was 200 ish. Comes with a kit I didn't need, but I'm going with it. I've never purchased from the company, but will let y'all know how it goes-shipping was fast.
Enjoy your day!

Enjoy your day! I have a raytech 5 and love it. It’s sturdy, light and cheap. I can get one every year if needed at 100 buck a pop. I’ve had it since March and run it 24/7 with no issues. I habitually overload it lol. I’ll get a 10 eventually so I can do larger rocks. But the 5 is great and I get a killer polish out of it. I’m curious, what did you do with you old uv-10?

velodromed that's good to know. Also in this case I did not use Zoro.com but they frequently send me 20% off coupons bc I've bought motors from them... I mention bc they carry raytech tumblers. I still have the UV-10 and I have the Fasco replacement (but it isn't the "thumlers red Fasco motor"). Maybe not buying the Thumler one was a mistake. Half the price but may not have been a good investment. I'm not sure what I'll do yet, thought of selling it and letting someone do the work of cutting shaft down, tearing down the tumbler and replacing motor. Or do it when I have time.

Yay ! @ JR8675309
Someone else has the RT-10 and ... better yet ... it is someone who is not a Vibrating Noo-Bee like moi ! .
so ....
what's this about bubble wrap ?
and .... when you figure out whether the rubberized big washer goes on the inside on the bowl or on the outside of the lid please let me know.
Mine cost $185 from Kingsley North with no kit. I installed a stainless spindle and wing nut to eliminate rusting and am still working on finding the perfect recipe for the RT10.

RockyBeach is the RT-10 a vibe tumbler? I'm confused KN didn't have any more vibe tumblers that I could find. Last I checked they were out of vibes. I'll let u know when I get this deal set up and we can swap Info. On my Thumler I put bubble wrap mailers on the spindle over bowl, add lid and then cinch down the bowl. Keeps splatter off the foam lined lid of the Thumler UV-10.

I bought mine in late June ... early July because all of the other brands of vibes were not available and just having a rotary is too slow going. It takes a while to get enough rough thru Stage 1 in the rotary to fill up the vibe so have not finished many ... meanwhile I have been bugging everyone with questions and reading and learning about this new ( to me) hobby. I do like the clear lid on the RayTech that lets you see what is going on ... when I have not added too much water again and get splashes. Am getting better at seeing what works and what doesn't. May try the bubble wrap and see what happens.

JR8675309By the way, either throw away their SiC grit, or use it in a rotary tumbler. It’s awful, stained the bowls black with imbedded grit. The SiC from the rock shed and Kingsley North does not do this. I have three bowls for mine, so I did some experimenting with different grits. Their AO polish seems ok and I use it as pre-polish.

Look up Scott Wilkins on YouTube. He’s a more or less new guy, think he’s only been around for a year or two. He uses a raytech 10 for one of his vibes. He’s a former medical equipment service guy I believe, and is extremely handy and good at figuring out how to get these things to work properly. He did a recent video where he shows the modifications he made to the raytech 10 in order to get it to work well. He addresses that big washer thing that you were wondering about. In that same video, he also talks about his Tumblr vibe that he had to modify to get it to work right after the motor died. We like the guy and tend to think of him as the Mr. Rogers of rock tumbling (you’ll see what I mean when you turn in) He lives in Austin so much of what he does is relevant to what I like to collect, since I’m here in San Antonio.

velodromed you're saying I show throw away the grit that came from Raytech? I ise TRS grit, and I'll definitely avoid the stuff in the kit if it's crappy, thanks for the heads up. RockyBeach rocktumbler, com has a great video on filling vibe tumblers.

RockyBeach rocktumbler, com has a great video on filling vibe tumblers. No. I’m saying save them for the rotary tumbler if you have one. They stained the hell out of 2 of my bowls, awful. By running rough small rock a couple days I mostly clean one up and tested rock shed and Kingsley north grits in it without issue. So I ran the raytech stuff again and instant awful staining. I had also run a batch of picture Jasper and the rayteck grit stained the slightly porous rock in areas pretty bad. The other grits didn’t. So after a couple months testing I regulated the rayteck stuff to just the rotary tumblers. It doesn’t seem to be an issue in the rotary.

Look up Scott Wilkins on YouTube. Thanks for the tip ... I have added him to my subscription list and will check out more of his videos. I liked his suggestion to add a bit of "foam" under the bowl to reduce the leakage. Was also a bit relieved to find that it is the machine as well as my error causing much of the mess and that some splashing is "normal"> I have the bowl that is made especially for rock tumbling and is without the hole that needed plugging. I have replaced the shaft with a stainless steel one and use a stainless wing nut instead of a regular nut. Have been wondering if it ok to shorten the shaft and thanks to that video its seems like a good idea !

His modifications and hacks are fantastic. He also has really tried to perfect his tumbling/polishing process and I’ve incorporated many of his methods into my own process. He’s very calming and stress free to watch as well lol.

velodromed Thanks ... I have read their site and gleaned all sorts of valuable info there. That video is pretty good but it has an oopsie in it tho... after several times in the text, "don't put stage one rough in the vibe" the fella in the video loads it up with what sure looks like stage one rough ! Speaking in this thread of grits ... Any feedback on the grits from MJR Tumbler ? I bought the 60/90 , 120/220 and 500/600 SiC and the 1200 Al Oxide from him in my 100% Harbor Freight 2 barrel rotary days and have quite a bit of it left. I bought 25 lbs of stage one 60/90 from the Rock Shed. I see some black on the center of the bowl but it seems to scrub off pretty well with a stiff plastic scrubber brush.

I bought 25 lbs of stage one 60/90 from the Rock Shed. I see some black on the center of the bowl but it seems to scrub off pretty well with a stiff plastic scrubber brush. I’ve no idea about the mjr tumbler grit, sorry. Scott does the majority of his course tumbling rough by rotary. He has a beautiful multi barrel set up that he built with many different sized barrels. After the course stage is done (often several months) he uses an 8 day vibe process for stages 2-polish. I’ve enjoyed watching over the last 2+ years as he’s gotten more serious into the hobby and perfected his process through trial and error. Now some rocks can’t handle rotary tumblers very well and can be run in a vibe with 200 range grit to start off. It’s ok to put rough in a vibe, I’ve done it to clean them off and knock some sharp edges down. I don’t use additional media when doing this, just let them rattle and collide in the bottom of the tumbler with a little water. What’s not good is using heavy course grit in the vibe. I’ve tried it and it was an ineffective mess. 60/90 is a good all around grit mix. I prefer straight 60 grit though for the first few course runs in my small tumblers, then 60/90 for the rest. It seems to work best for me and allows 10 day clean outs rather than 7 days. For my big rebel 17, I use 2/3rds 30 grit and 1/3rd 60 grit for the 10 day cycles. Spinning at 40rpm it chews through our local rough rock very well. This is a fun and challenging hobby, ain’t it!?! Oh, try to get that black stuff off or it will be pushed deeper into the plastic bowl over time. One of mine I neglected to do this and it’s permanently imbedded now. That bowl is for stage 2 only now. The 2nd bowl I caught in time and cleaned it up, it’s for the 3rd stage. Stages 2-3 are 1/2-2/3rds full of a mix of ceramics and small aquarium agate. My last bowl is for AO polish only, 2/3rds-3/4s full, and is only filled with small ceramics. It seems to polish much better that way I’ve found.
