skmcconnell361 I was thinking about the colored rock you have, so I did a little research on dyed aquarium rock. It seems that agate is what they typically use. It takes a dye well and would hold up underwater. I think I would go ahead and throw a bunch of it in a tumbler for a few days with some coarse grit, and see what happens. Since you’re going to toss it anyway, you might as well find out if it’s any good to use for tumbling. If it’s dyed agate, It’ll serve the purpose fine. If it’s other kinds of dyed , softer rock, they may crumble up. You won’t know unless you try it. So go ahead and try it. Hopefully waterobert doesn't feel like this thread got hijacked, If so My apologies, I do hope that my question gave you some alternative Ideas. I Planned on keeping the gravel but throwing the rest of the aquarium stuff out as allege has taken over. it was the wife's before she passed. I was not able to keep up with it by myself afterwards. The gravel needs to be cleaned and I figured tumbling it with borax and a bit more water for a few days should clean it up and give me an ideal if it might be good tumbling media. I will let you all know. what I find out.
