I use the 70 grit Aluminum Oxide grit from Harbor Freight for my rough tumble,stage one. Works great for beach rocks. A 50 pound bucket with their 25% off sale will run you $56

Interesting. I wonder how it performs compared to 70 grit Silicon Carbide for stage one shaping.

Interesting. I wonder how it performs compared to 70 grit Silicon Carbide for stage one shaping. I can't answer that myself, never used Silicone Carbide for stage one. The majority of my rocks are pretty well rounded that I collect along Lake Huron and I am satisfied with the A.O.
