I experienced my first blow out today. Evidently my Rebel 17 vented some gas and slurry sometime today. All in all, it was not bad. The tumbler sits on the floor of my shed, and there wasn't more than half of a cup of slurry to clean up. But it does make me feel like a real tumbler now

Oh no!
At least you have that behind you. I’m not familiar with that tumbler. Be sure none of the slurry remains on the shafts or bushings. Just out of curiosity, is there any obsidian or glass in the batch?

I'm curious because the only time mine has leaked has been when there was a small rock between the canister and soft lid.
That little bit created a small "leak" of sorts....wondering if that's what happened.

No glass or obsidian. I am not sure why there was any gas build up.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture. I thought I had cleaned the opening of the tumbler well before closing it, but I can't rule out the possibility of a small rock being trapped under the lid.

I'm not saying it is or isn't the issue, but I feel like the only times I've had leaks on this stout tumbler is when I left the gap.
I feel like a blowout on a 12lb would be big...

My Rebel 17 had several blowouts until I started to fill it with hot water and stopped adding sugar to the water. Now I feel life is so easy...

The rebel 17 is super picky about how well you clean the rim and the rubber gasket. Even a few tiny pieces of grit will give me a leak. It probably was your top not being cleaned well enough.

Welcome to the club!! I've had this happen to me a couple of times lol...Once the lid in my thumlers had grit trapped in the groove and I came home to a huge mess, another time the lid of my thumlers completely wore through spraying slurry all over my Nat Geo. Both machines survived the slurry bath to roll another day, but man was it a P.I.T.A to clean. While my Thumler's has really served me well over the year 1/2 I've had it, I don't think I'd buy this style again for this reason.

I place my Rebel 17 in a cardboard box, in case if it vomits again. The previous blow outs were pretty manageable that I spent more time on cursing than cleaning it up...

No glass or obsidian. I am not sure why there was any gas build up. Make sure to clean all rocks before going into tumbler. Anything organic going into the barrel can cause gas buildup. Try not to have excess dirt, grass, etc
