I haven't posted in awhile because I haven't been tumbling lately for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is that my Lortone keeps stopping randomly. Monday I spent a great deal of time cleaning both my Lortone and Chicago Electric up, making sure there was no build up of anything clogging the gears, the belts were good, etc, and started them both up. I made sure the loads for the Lortone barrels were very light. For the full day Monday they were both fine. By Tuesday morning the Lortone stopped again. I can get it going again for a few hours by pushing the barrels to start everything moving again but after a bit it stops.
I don't know what else to do at this point. It's not like I can watch them 24/7 to make sure it keeps tumbling. I do have to do things like sleep, go to work, etc.
For all that people keep saying that CE is bad and no one should buy it, I've had way fewer issues with it than I've had with this "best of the best" tumbler I kept getting told I needed to buy. I'm very close to recycling it somehow and going and buying a second CE. The most I've had to do with the CE was buy replacement parts for the barrels at they wore out due to friction.

I have a Lortone QT12 that started having problems similar to yours. All of the sudden it just wouldn't spin fast and would stop occasionally. I looked at the belt and it looked fine. After some time I decided to get a new belt before I started thinking about a new motor. The new belt did the trick even though it didn't look any different than the existing belt. Only thing I could figure is that some of the rubber debries got on the belt and made it slip some. Can't guarantee it but you might try a new belt. If you do, make sure you clean the pulleys good. I think I might have cleaned mine with acetone but not sure.

So it doesn't sound like the motor is stopping but rather a belt tension problem and or dirty/oily pulleys and belt.Check out your shaft bushings too.

I would agree that belt tension is likely the culprit.

I have a Lortone 33b and recently swapped out the nylon bushings for flush mount bearings. I got concerned because when I plugged it back in the motor seemed to be struggling! But once I gave the pulley a nudge it all started working just fine. Needless to say, I'm very interested in this thread!
