Why is there a cylinder notch in the bottom of the vibratory tumbler. Does it serve a purpose. Small media gets trapped in it. Can I cover it with epoxy?

I had that in one of the two barrels I had (I've since sold my lot-o) but it was more of a deeper divot and I rarely had issues with it holding media. I have heard of others who have filled in the hole, but I can't recall what they used. Rubber cement, maybe? I think epoxy would be ok too as long as it's smoothed over and nowhere for grit to get into and hide once it's set. To my knowledge it doesn't serve any purpose.
