Solved. Thanks for all the information and help! These are what my mom is looking for. Many years ago when she visited Utah/Arizona national parks, she purchased the roughs below and love them. Unfortunately she couldn't find the box any more. I won't be visiting Utah/Arizona any time soon, so I checked with ebay and etsy and they either only have huge roughs, slabs or expensive small pieces. Wondering if anybody in RTH has reasonably priced small roughs. I can tumble them to get them rounded up if they have sharp edges. I don't think I am able to polish them but my mom doesn't seem to care. Thanks!

Why is that stuff priced so high?
Also found some for cheap at the rockshed.
Edit: it’s Arizona. Not Utah, my bad

Oh let me check. Rockshed said it is Arizona Sandstone. Updated the title of my post. They seem to only carry finished plates though.

Thanks! My mom visited Grand Canyon, Arches, Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley so it could be from one of their gift shops. I guess my mom wouldn't care if they are from Utah or Arizona as long as they look and feel that way

No promises though

I guess my mom wouldn't care if they are from Utah or Arizona as long as they look and feel that way I don't have any actual usable information but this reminded me of some years back we were in Utah on Hwy 89 headed from Brice Canyon towards AZ and stumbled upon this shop in Kanab specializing in sandstone. We went in and loved it so much we ended up buying a few gifts for friends and family.

I have sent her this photo to see if she has any memory about it.

I have sandstone sculptures and I bet if I look I can find some in the $1 pile. I am still in Arizona but will be headed home as soon as the current winter storm is over. Hit me up in a week or so to remind me cause I have a bad case of CRS.

I believe I also have some of this. My in-laws used to live in Utah and we did many Little Rock scrambling outings with them as well as visits to Bryce and Grand Canyon, etc. I will keep my eye out as I organize. Tag me here as well if a couple weeks go by and you haven’t gotten ahold of any yet. In the meantime I’ll try to find mine.

pebblesky Were you able to locate any AZ sandstone yet? I have several scrap pieces from when I was making spheres from some. This stuff is from Taylor AZ.

Thanks AzRockGeek and these look exactly like the sandstons my mom was looking for. I am wondering how big they are and if they could fit in a 12lb barrel for step 1 tumbling so that they could be rounded up nicely.
