I had some time to slab a couple of the rocks shown in the video and have attached pics. Horn Coral. I forgot to take a before picture. It is the rock at 2:28 in the video. It started out real good on the small end but the coral in the center disapeared and turned black as I got into the rock. Strippy Rock at 14:28 in the video. I should have tried polishing this before I put it in the saw but I think it will polish. The end piece is in the tumbler so will find out shortly. My wife thinks the lines in the closeup looks like a bird on a stump. Thanks for looking. I have another rock from the video tumbling right now and a couple that I will try to slab this week. Chris

I have had the same thing happen with horn coral, where I grind right through the fossil. That's a shame, because that was looking really good.

From the intact picture of the stripey rock, it doesn't look like the lighter color is going to undercut. It'll be interesting to see the polished piece! (And your wife nailed it with the bird ID! )

Here are a couple more rocks from the video that I had a chance to slab. The first one is the red/yellow jasper? from 19:46 in the video. Before photo. It is the rock in the lower right by the quarter. Slabs. As Rob Jugglerguy suspected, the yellow faded out. But still interesting as there are parallel healed fractures through the yellow portion with some that look like they were offset a little at the red (or maybe the red bled into the yellow along the fractures). Not sure what I will do but might make an interesting cab with half yellow and half red. If you look at the last photo there are 4 different colors (yellow, red, bland something, and what looks like a little spot of orange). I was going to say that it isn't as nice as the poppy jasper we have seen lately but at least I found it myself. Except I didn't, Rob found it. The next one was from 21:39 in the video. This looked a lot more colorful on the beach but the colors don't shine with the inside lights. Rob said he thought this was stromatoporoid. When I cut it you can see the little perpendicular lines along the layers (near the top of the closeup photos) so I think Rob was right. And he says he is no rock identification expert. Before. Slabs. There is a little red on the inside but it doesn't show up well in the photos. In the video Rob asked me what I would do with this rock tumble or slab it. I slabbed it. Not sure what I will do or how well it will polish. The typical stromatoporoids that I find are gray limestone and very soft and don't polish well. I think I have two more rocks from the video yet. Thanks for taking a look. Chris

Those are some cool slabs, Chris. That yellow in the first one went deeper than rocks I usually find. Most of them are just yellow on the very outside. I'd love to find a whole rock made out of that material, whether it's jasper or something else.

chris1956 - That second rock...seriously looks like pieces I find out here. I don't have an example...but if I do come across one, I'll try to remember to tag you and reference "stromatoporoids"

I have some smaller yellow ones from Justin hplcman that are in the tumbler now. Not sure if they are jasper or something else but they have the same bright yellow color. Will post pics when they are done. chris1956 - That second rock...seriously looks like pieces I find out here. Here are the last two rocks from the video (At least ones that I can find. I think a couple might have jumped out of my bag.) that I have done something with. Probably won't add to this unless something from one of the slabs really turns out spectacular when polished. First rock is the small epidote from about 12:34 in the video. It is the one in the lower left on the group shot. Last two photos are after tumbling. The second one is the rock from about 18:23 from the video. I cut this one into slabs. It is the one in the lower right (first photo above) in the group shot. It will be interesting to see how this polishes. There is some white looking stuff that you can see on the left side of the last photo that looks like it might be fractured. Also some black spots that might not polish well. Third photo is wet, fourth is dry. Thanks for looking, Chris

Those slabs look really good to me. That's the stuff I use for the bottoms of my little turtles and for Christmas ornaments. I'm not sure about the white stuff, but the left side should be great.
