Newbie here.
I grew up in the Pennsylvania hard coal anthracite country, northeast PA. After Sunday dinner at my grandparents house, we would crack large coal chunks to find fossils, almost always fern leaves.
While working at a coal breaker, I found a multi-colored, 13 lb rock along side a breaker road. This multi-colored rock was out of place against the black coal banks and I stopped and placed it in my truck. That was 40+ years ago.
So, i come here on a quest for help with the 13lb rock.. I think it is crazy looking and unique. Maybe weak magnetic field or could be my imagination?
I already asked my neighbors on a local app, no help. I asked reddit rock group, dead silence. I blindly emailed 3 Penn State geology professors, no replies.
I also collect all styles on rocks and minerals. Fossils. Shark teeth. Arrorheads. Silver. No tumbling yet. We plan on gold panning one day.
Glad to bd here and will explore. Thanks.
Paul

Welcome to RTH paul789. Some photos would help. The best way to check for magnetism is with a compass.

Hey Paul! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! Ummm...super great intro that is likely to pique ALL of our interests as to what that rock is! If you can't figure out Cloudinary to upload pics (I figured it out...so it's not super-duper difficult!), you can always use Tapatalk to post pics. We'd love to see if we can help you figure out the 40-year mystery!

Welcome Paul from Southern Nevada.
Trying to ID stones from pics can be hard sometimes. Good pics of the stone in natural lighting of both the outside and a cut or ground surface to see the inside can help as well as info such as hardness, density, streak color, etc.

Hi from Aus.
Sorry you couldn't identify your mystery rock. It sounds cool. Did you get a picture of it?

I am computer dummy I guess. I tried and failed at loading pics with 3rd party software...Cloudinary.
Is there someone else I can send them to to post for me or look at?
Or link I can setup at twitter or another site with pics.?
Thanks, Pau

Keep trying on the cloudinary thing. It’s a pain but it works great once you get it setup.
