These are some of the recent cabs I've done. Some real goodies here, im happy with most of them! Group shot first:
Some closer up shots. First is supposedly "mid grade" plasma agate from clear creek in Mariposa County, CA. I can only imagine what the high grade stuff will look like (said it'd be available sometime in Sep)!!
The red specks caught me off guard so I askedwhat they were thinking maybe garnet or possibly ruby but he said agatized cinnabar. That is a new one for me!
That first pic does a great job hiding the damage that occurred from having the large one as a pocket rock, but I think a good wire wrap should hide it fairly well! Here's a shot showing the chip:
Next some really nice red lace laguna from the gem shop...I've been charged two different prices for this material, once $25/lb and the second time the accurate price of $15/lb. Either way, well worth the money!
Then we have a piece of what I'm calling "marshmallow" jasper that i got as a trade at our last club show. It is from somewhere in Utah and rather soft material. Also pictured is a piece of graveyard point plume agate and a small chip of koroit Boulder opal. My partner bought a garage full of rocks and lapidary equipment years ago and it had a large rough chunk that I've been wanting to cut for years (she won't let me). I was lucky to find a small piece the other day in a random bucket. It has a little bit of purple, pretty nice!
Next a few jaspers, I believe blue mustang or mountain (hard to keep em all straight), the red one is either Mary Ellen jasper or banded iron type material. The third was a piece of morrisonite end cuts from the gemshop in WI but honestly doesn't look like the "classic" morrisonite I've seen pics of. Still beautiful!
Finally a piece of "purple passion" laguna from the gem shop as well. This stuff is their "B" grade. I can only imagine what the A grade looked like but it is out of stock. There was actually very little of the B grade, I had to really dig around in the basement to find it. It is stunning though!
Thanks for looking, lemme know which ones are your favorites and which shares you like best!
Thanks for looking! Cheers ~ Josh
