realrockhound, you probably thought I had forgot about this slab but just been away and too busy the last couple weeks. Got 3 done today. The big one was material on top of the other two that are included so I did it first to practice since it didn't have much pattern to it. Hard to dome because the slab was thin but got close. The smaller ones were much easier. Still have a fairly large piece of the slab left. Thanks again for sending this. Group photo. The one on the bottom had a "tree" on the ridge but it disapeared as soon as I started polishing. Got a "bush/tree" at the ridgeline on the one on the left. Almost had a "sun" peaking through the clouds on the bottom one but it faded at the last minute. Closeups. Rightside up and upside down (or the other way). One above just after I started polishing Before and after. Forgot to take a before of this one. And a Petoskey Stone. Just for fun. Not solid Petoskey but nice detail and the matrix around it polished pretty well too. One side only polished. Thanks for taking a look, Chris

Those came out very nice. Really like that oval with the lil dendrites. Great scenic capture on that one. Others are nice as well, but that one takes it for me. Nice work. How did that material cut? Hard/soft/etc?

chris1956 - Nice work buddy! I'm glad you shared it. I like them all, favorite of the batch is the littler oval with the dendrites. I love how the hills have those lines, is it orangey? It's super pretty whatever color it is. I can't wait to see more of your work!

Hard/soft/etc? Thanks. On the trim saw it went fast but as you might tell from the before picture of the one it chipped a lot and I was concerned enough that it might chip on the 80 wheel that I started on 220 on the first bigger one. The other two, I got close on the 80 wheel and then went to 220. I would say soft as I did most of the doming on 220 and it went pretty fast. The oval one has a couple small holes but you can only see them if you get the light just right. The oval with the dendrites is my favorite too. chris1956 - Nice work buddy! I'm glad you shared it. Raining outside today so couldn't get natural light. This was with LED lights.

Isn't it bizarre how much the color changes outside??? It's been raining here too! Maybe it will cool things off a bit BTW - I think you'll get your package tomorrow. I can't wait!

Great looking cabs. I don't know if I've seen Rocky Butte with the quartz like that. This stuff looks different than what I've worked but I know it can vary a lot in appearance. I've always been astounded how hard it is once I start grinding. I really like the two smaller ones. Hard for me to pick one!

I found it to be soft, or at least easier to shape. I shaped the dome pretty much on 220 wheel vs something like quartz that I would shape on the 80 wheel. Maybe he can comment more on other of the same material he has and how soft/hard it is. By quartz are you talking about the grayish material on the larger one? I don't think it is quartz. Looks like a grayish/blueish jasper. realrockhound?

Looks like a grayish/blueish jasper. realrockhound? Its 100% rocky butte. That stuff came out of my barrel of rough outback. The bluish color is the typical sky color you see in rocky butte. If you post the whole slab it’s pretty easy to identify. Different sections and colors in the material I have noticed tend to be harder than others.

Forgot I took pictures of the whole slab. Here it is. The first one is the side I used to pick out cabs (at least the first three left side and top left).

When I looked at it the first time it looked like a crystally quartz top. (I just made up the word crystally!)
