I am 57 on sept 8th. I have always been interested in rocks. I am a digger. Any field I may be in or property live on hold get dug. The current property has the most I've ever come across. The variety is odd to me to come across. River rock, the property (duplex) was built around 1972-4? Along one side I can only rake, shoveling gets me top soil, grass roots then rock. It's not architect gravel. I also came across some old clam shells. I am ready to start Tumbling, thinking to diy 100% of a descent size tumbler. Harbor freight advertised a machine for $70-$99. I have the room and materials to build. Which direction should I go. I am a noob to Tumbling and know the process takes 3wks to a month.

Welcome to the forum from Missouri. You might do a search on the forum (button at top) on Harbor Freight as there has been a lot of discussion about the types of tumblers they make (some for metal) and I seem to recall that they may have changed the design not too long ago.

Welcome from Central California! A month is pretty fast for a rotary tumbler. Sometimes stage 1 can take longer than that depending on the results you're looking for.

Welcome from Washington state. Great that you want to find your own rocks. It is not that difficult to build a tumbler. You can do it. Look online for homemade tumblers and mimic the design you like the most.

Welcome from California. Not a tumbler, but there are many tumbling pros here. There are also RTHlings who have built their own machines.

Harbor Freight still has 10% off today, 20%ff for insider members. Good deal. I'm going to pick up a 3rd just for spares.
