Hello, I have to give thanks to this forum and multiple members who's threads I read and learned how to tumble from. I started tumbling about 2 1/2 years ago and have become pretty good at it. I spent a lot of time lurking though out this forum and picked up bits and pieces of info. I did not participate in threads as I didn't think i had much to offer. I came away with enough info that i was able to build my own rotary and vibratory tumblers. Built my own hand lap using a hand drill, table vice and diamond pads from ebay. An aquarium pump from Wal Mart. Some tubing and a couple of buckets to hold and catch water. I learned how to properly use a Lot-O-Tumbler. I taught myself hardness, what rocks will tumble and what won't. How to spot soft spots and anticipate undercutting. And a whole lot more. I was confident enough in my skills to enter the Feather River Lapidary and Mineral Society World Wide tumbling contest. I spent from Jan 2024 to June 2024 with the 1st 5 months spent in the first stage and A LOT of hand grinding removing the imperfections. The final polish was flawless. The finish on these stones was awesome. I ended up in first place, but I need to give the credit to the experts on this forum that I gleaned the information from. I truly stand on the shoulders of giants. There are so many to thank. I will just give out one big THANK YOU to the forum. Sincerely, Alan Grillo MD Roseau, MN. Ludington, MI.
