This is a chatoyant little bugger, each one of the "flakes" you see in this picture will flash at the right angle. Not labradorite as it's a 6+ on the Moh's scale (I didn't get the quartz out to test that one but a nail didn't even nick it).

Hmmm...just off that pic, I would've said Labrodorite. Me too, but it lacks that "Labradorescense" (tm). To be honest it reflects a bit more like that dark material you can get with some Sodalite, that kind of chatoyance but not mica bright.
