Good Morning Hi to everyone, I'm new to rock tumbling and have just done my first lot. Some were OK, some were good and some, well best leave that there Perhaps some stones tumble where others don't. I do have a question though and I've got several raw crystals that are larger than I want, but not huge but I'd like to split them and then tumble them for jewellery. I did try the hammer and screwdriver thing and nothing happened, tried the hammer and it just broke shards off. Any advice help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi Annie, welcome from Dubai! I am not a tumbler, but perhaps you can visit your local gem/lapidary/rock club? They will have diamond saws that you will most likely be able to use (or they will cut them for you), and be able to give help and suggestions in general too!

Hey Annie...welcome to the forum from South Dakota! The best...or least expensive option I can think of is a wet tile saw from the hardware store. They're usually pretty inexpensive...

Hi from Australia If you can get a wet tile saw or join a lapidary club, like recommended, that would be better than using a hammer. Hitting the rocks can cause fractures that show up when tumbling.

Welcome from Central California! What kind of crystals are you trying to break up? Usually crystals get left whole and not tumbled.
