I spent my Easter Sunday at the Harding Pegmatite Mine in Dixon, NM. It's owned by the University of New Mexico and collecting is allowed on a fee basis. Collectors are allowed to remove 5lbs of rock a day ( not much, is it?), and it cannot be used for commercial purposes. I spent my day looking for lepidolite and got several nice pieces I can cut with my little 6# trim saw, maybe get some small slabs for cabbing. Anyways, it was fun. I hope to go back this coming weekend. ;D S

Very cool Susan. I'd like to see some of that slabbed up.

WTG on finding the goodies. Probably a lot healthier than eating all that ham anyway.

I've seen some slabbed and polished. It can come out nice but seems like you'll have to find the right polish to get a good shine. Nice haul.

That stuff amazes me it looks like gumdrops in the rough weird finish though once it's polished

That's nice looking rough, Susan. I have a chunk but it is much lighter colored. Just from handling it I have the feeling it is a rather hard material. That is so cool that you can go out and collect your own pieces of it!! Bill

Susan, can you confirm that this material is in fact fracture free? This is what I read and this seems true of my stuff, how about yours? Solid through & through?

Not sure, Tweet - The pieces I picked up are small and look really solid, the 2 largest are golf-ball size. They are a dark bluish purple and look like they have frosted sugar on them - gumballs is a pretty good description. I have seen some lepidolite cabs, and it's nice material. It took several hours to find these few pieces. As I said, collectors are only allowed to take 5 pounds of rock, and that's not very much. Stoner has offered to cab a piece for me. S
