WOW!! It's like a super store for rocks. So where does a person start in a place like this. It's realy cool that in the south western states the rock shops are out side like this. I stopped at one outside of Tucson and they had their stock outside along with their rock saws, lined up outside under a lean-to sawing away. Here in MN it's impossible to do something like that.

Holy poo, are those tables just left there out in the open day and night? Is that place fenced in at all or are there giant guard dogs? That's amazing, they must have been collecting for years. LOL Susan, they've got some really bad hemeroids ... reminds me of petrified ant hills. ;D

Wow, the crazy lace table would be great to have in my garage! ;D I wouldn't know where to start either, we don't even have rock shops around this area. I'd love to see just one!

Honestly, Cher, I don't know...but I'll check next time I go down there. It looks like it might be $8.00 a pound from what I can see in the photo, but it may be $18.00 or even $28.00. Everything there is pretty expensive, but of very high quality. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Albuquerque to Bingham, which is literally a one-horse town. Here'e their website. I think I've posted it before. www.peaktopeak.com/blanchardTweet, I bought one slab of Ghost Jade and it was $55.00. Yes, the tables full of rocks are kept outside, but closed off at night. There used to be 2 big dogs patrolling but now the guardians are a Dachshund (MEAN!) and a humongous black and white tomcat (NOT MEAN). Wayne recently had to put his best friend, a 13 yr old half Lab/half Scottish Deerhound down. Not sure if there are surveillance cameras, but most rockhounds are pretty honest, so I don't think it matters. Wayne is a gold miner, and believe me, if he caught you stealing, he'd have no qualms about shooting you. These pix don't even show HALF of what is kept there. There is a building full of lapidary equipment. There is a building full of expensive minerals mined at the Blanchard Mine, Ghost Jade cabs and Trinitite (a radioactive glass-like substance that was created when the sand from the first atom bomb explosion literally melted at Ground Zero). I wish I had a bigger card for my camera. There are tons of antique artifacts just lying around...RANDY YOU'D GO NUTS!...old truck cabs, old farm machinery, old mining equipment. Numerous rock gardens, piles and piles of Agate and P-wood that I didn't photograph... It's truly a magical place. I'll try to photograph some of the other cool places to go in NM - like the Kelly Mine, Harding Mine, Mama's Minerals, Tony's Rock Shop. Maybe I can get you all to move here and keep me company. Oohaha. ;D S

Keep you company, we'd need to be independantly wealthy cause we'd all be rockhounding instead of working. At least I would .... lol. Oh well on the burgundy jasper, it's beautiful but that is pretty high for me. Maybe someday if I can sell a few things. Take a look though anyway when you do go, I'd appreciate it.

Wow! I sure don't have anything like that near me. What a place. Your will power must be incredible, Susan. I could never have gotten out of there with just one slab. I am impressed!!

I like Kelly mine. There are some cool mines up in water canyon. Between Socorro and Magdalene. I guess we are lucky yo live here in NM. You can collect rock almost anywhere you go. I went in a great rock shop in Hillsboro, nice owner and low prices. Lora at Mommas Minerals is cool. She sold me my tumbler for $60.00.
