Round Mountain Chalcedony That barrel also yielded some itty bitty Fire Agates Local Agate! Look CLOSELY! Lakers! Won these from Bear... NM Wood Just washed off with the hose - ready to go back in for another grind. This batch has been rolling along in coarse for about 3 weeks. All self-collected with the exception of those Lakers. S

That's some nice looking self-collected material. And a LOT of stones too -- that must be a big barrel you are using!

Hey all. Here's what I have going into 500. I took these out of 120/220 about a week and a half ago and forgot about them. I thought it was kinda quiet in the garage. There's a bunch of blue lace, carnellian, picture jasper, moss agate and a few lakers in here. A few closeups of the carnellian and a laker. I have a load I just recharged in 45/70 too, but not very photogenic. I'll wait til they look a little nicer to take pics.

You know, I think I like the carnellian better as rouded stones than I do as cabs. They just look good enough to eat.

All three barrels are due to be checked next Wed. the 14th. No peekie 'till then! You guys have some nice stuff going. I gotta throw a Laker in my next coarse load, now that I own some Lakers!

Susan-
That's quite a nice variety pack you're working on there. Great coloration and variety. Do you pre-cut any of them, or just toss 'em in?
Thanks for the cool shots.

Ed, that carnelian in your pics is going to be spectacular! I've got some carnelian rough that is, well, very rough, that I intend to run with that rough limb cast you sent me, when I have a free barrel.
My goal for this summer is to polish up the many small bags I have of stones labelled as "ready for 120/220". Hopefully soon to be polished is a batch that includes a bunch of Ed's poppy jasper. Other stuff enroute to polish is a barrel of mainly local + some Arizona petrified wood, and a barrel of Botswana and Brazilian agate.
I'm eager to clear out my backlog of things "ready for 120/220", and start some new stuff in coarse grind.

Well, I almost sold one of my tumblers a while back. They had been idle for several months and I was pining for a cabbing machine. Luckily, the person who committed to buy never came up with the $ so I still have them, and no cabbing machine. I sold/traded a couple of flat-raters of NM p-woods, agates and jaspers to a few of RTH members (and threw in some pieces of the chalcedony). I thought I'd run a batch so everyone can see what it looks like finished. Takes forever - these should be done in another 6 weeks or so. SW rock is HARD! I'll try to remember to post photos as this batch progresses. Cal- The chalcedony (also known as Fire Agate) *from Round Mountain, Az* is really cool stuff - It's bitrioydal (sp?), tubular, layered, banded and filled with crystal cavities, and sometimes combined with beautiful quartz crystals. And yes, there are some that display fire. Once in a while I have found a piece big enough to slab but, alas, I have no slab saw. Some of it is way too pretty to modify, so gets saved as specimens. Gaetz- I haven't preshaped anything for tumbling. Most of what I have tumbled I busted up with an Estwing. The chalcedony is small rock to begin with and doesn't need to be broken. These are pretty crappy photos. My camera has been giving me a hard time lately. S

Both of you's got some great lookin' batches going. I love those Lakers and Fire Agates Susan, and yours as well Ed. I can't believe that Carnelian, none of mine has turned out anywhere near that spectacular. Steve

I have a question...those sweet little stars in this picture...are they real? Is that what you call a laker?

Shouldn't there be a fierce dragon guarding a cache of loot like that?
