Pdwight, I was just thinking we hadn't heard from you in a while. Hello! Joke: A couple had a beautiful, healthy son. Everything was going well with one exception: The boy wouldn't speak. After 8 years of silence from the child there was an eventfull night. At diner, after passing around the bowls of food and filling their plates, the boy exclaimed: "These mashed potatoes are cold". The parents were thrilled, their boy had spoken his first words. Why, they wanted to know, hadn't he spoken before? "Up till now, everything has been just fine."

OK, before I look, I want to say I hope you didn't find the joke offensive, I certainaly didn't mean it that way or know of your difficult times. I lost my husband to lung cancer 5 years ago. It was just him and me at the end. He had no living relatives and my family was 1200 miles away. I feel your pain more than you know. I send you positive energy and love in the best way I know how. Blessings to you in this difficult time. Cry when you need to. It's natures way of giving us a release valve.

Thanks for your kind words everyone. My wife "My Betty" will take a lot of getting acustomed to living without her to say "It will be alright". But back to the Tumblers...the Chicago Tumblers are just cheap coppies of the Lortone products. The really weak area is the crappy chineese motor they put in the tumbler. I ordered a replacement motort from "The Rock Shed" for a lortone and a belt and rebuilt my Chicago...not only is it quiter in operatin it never fails now. The Drums are really pretty good in these machines. I think I spent 20 bucks for the motor , belt , and the pulley to rebuild my chicago. It is no big deal, it doesnt even require drilling any holes...but you will need the two spacers that were on the original and go to lowes or Home Depot and buy 3 new bolts....so if you have one of these Chineese Wonders and craps out on you, you can not only save it you can make it better than new for only a few dollars.

I noticed that my CE tumbler was not turning right this morning. Checked the belt and found that is was about to break. It only lasted 13 days. Put my spare Lortone belt on. It seems to be a little tight, but not real tight. I do not want to use the belts for the CE if they only last 2 weeks. The belt for my Lortone has been the same belt since it was new, and I started using it August 22, with no belt problems.

Dwight, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Consider me among those beaming positive energy your way. And if I might pass along something you said in a post way back when regarding what you did with polished rocks...
You can take polished rocks to your local hospital gift shop and ask if they will sell them for a donation to cancer research. I think this is a lovely idea and am building up a special box of rocks for just that purpose. This is not my idea...it's Dwight's. I just thought it was worth repeating again and gives us all a really good use for our rocks.
My thoughts are with you.

Since I'm just starting out tumbling for a project for my spousal unit's work, I went over to the local Harbor Freight and got a double barrel CE for 22.00. I also ordered a half dozen replacement belts on Ebay. My logic was that I could get 3 CEs for the price of a Lortone and the store is only 20 minutes away. We'll see how it goes.

Eric, I saw the belts on ebay, but I did not find were it said if they would work on both the single and double tumbers or not. That why I was wondering how they work out for you when you get them. My original belt broke a week or two ago, after only 13 days, and I put my spare Lortone belt on. Seems to work ok. ;D Chris

I have a twin 3lb C/E tumbler and purchased replacement belts on e-bay. They work for both the 3lb & 6 lb unit.
The e-bay belt (large o-ring) works a lot better that the belt the units come with. The Original v-belt has WAY TOO MUCH stretch in it.

Chris, I just replaced the CE belt after only 10 days use. The ebay belt fits perfectly and is substantially thicker and tighter.
Regards. Eric

;D And the barrells are turning about 50% faster with the new belt. Now as long as the motor doesn't burn out.....LOL

Hi everyone: I bought my daughter a CE Dual Drum for Christmas from Frantasticgifts off of ebay and have been fighting it every sense. The motor bearings keep freezing up. I kept it out in the garage the first few nights it got down to freezing so maybe that's what did it in. First I tried lubricating the motor bearings with a silicone lubricant and that worked for about a day and a half. So then I tried high temp (disk break) auto bearing grease which was hard to work into the bearings and it only ran for about a day. So I tried WD40 and that only lasted two hours before it froze up. Looks like I'm going to have to do the Lorlone motor swap experiment. But before I go any further can anyone tell me just what kind of lubricant is best to on these motors? Thanks.
Rich
