Yep, its vogesite from Gerdus. Nice Slab! Your piece does not look like it has any fractures. I slabbed some vogesite this weekend. And, I thought they were a pretty nice looking. But, compared to your slab, mine now look a bit shabby!

cal this is nice no fractures at all there was a piece at the bottom that was a step higher then the rest of the chunk maybe an inch or so and it kept breakin off so i slid the tray back and tapped it with a hammer and it broke off in one whole piece the rest is fracture free i just cut a blue swirl stone and thats real nice too i think I'm gonna get allot of nice stuff from all that Kim sent me they all look solid --- i cant believe i waited this long to cut this stuff i didn't know what i was missin haha

*L* John, I know just what you mean. I got a magnificent hunk of swirlstone from one of Kims auctions and every time I take it out to cut it up I start looking at it and set it aside as it's just so darn pretty and has so many interesting patterns I can't bring myself to cut it. I have it hidden in a box from my wife because if she ever claims it , it'll go in her raised garden and I'll never cut it for sure *L*.....mel

sands here is what i have on the vogesite:
Vogesite - Patterning can be unpredictable. Good translucency. Stunning oranges and other autumn colors. It polishes to a high shine. Gerdus rates as “extremely good” and says it is an underrated stone. Some pieces have pyrolusite trees in them. The stone was named after Mr. Voges whose farm it was discovered on in Africa. Vogesite is a jasper/chalcedony from South Africa with patterns and swirls of reds, yellows, browns, ivories, and olives.
i haven't gotten the shine i want yet on it but i'm still trying!

the only one i find with something akin to flint is the swazi bloodstone sands. it says breccia in green/gray chert. but the green/gray in swazi is translucent. can chert be translucent? i thought it was opaque.

Well Kim according to the discussions Chert is indeed opaque- and it seems the Agate and chalcedony are the stones that show the tranlucency- I thought the bloodstone was green/gey chert IN a clear chalcedony??? Any way you look at it- it is some wonderful stone!
