you'll have to sell quite a few cabs so you can buy or rent a 4 wheeler or a gator so you can haul more rock back

Nice tunnel! It's great to see ground with no snow on it. I'm glad you got to get in there and look around. Hope it turns out to be a good spot.

yea even though my back was talkin it still was a very beautiful place i wanna see it in the summer when some of it greens up-- ya realy cant see what its like on that side till you get there its all small mountain tops so the road winds like a snake up and down just about every hill there hahaha i didnt make it 1/4 of the way and my back was done -- so i got up on that high spot and looked around i think it just might be an easy get to but then theres diggin haha --the name of the rock is candy rock thats what they callit as soon as i said it to her today she said yea i know how to drive in haha this lady and her husband are so nice i think when i get back to cabbin ill make her something special cause i dont even have to ask and she knows every turn and bend in the road haha --

Uh John, you're in New Mexico, if it ain't green now, it definitely won't be green in summer. I think I remember seeing those hills on my way up to see you. You should take a ride down to Las Cruces, I'll give you directions to Mt Picacho where I found all that nice rock. The woman who showed me the spot has been back twice since then and collected a lot more, so there's still plenty left.

John, I think the amethyst mines are in Kingston, not Winston.
Don't try to get into the Gila until things dry out a bit... or you'll be up to your keester in mud.
I promise it will get warmer and it will "green-up"... and the snakes will come out! ;DS

hi Susan this is not a mine for the Amy-- she said its just a vein about 6 inch's wide that runs the side of a small hill back on a forest road on the outskirts of winstonshe said they found it when they where back in there huntin years ago and took her sons back to show them and they found a big boulder of Amy in matrix not solid Amy just some big inclusions through the boulder her son brought it home she said they went back a few times to pick out some small stuff she said its cab worthy but not gem quality -- hey who knows what you will find if ya start diggin she said a lady friend of hers found a solid purple chunk bout 1/4 lb she said it looked gem worthy--- hey if ya get down here maybe we will run over there she drew me a map and Winston's not far from here -- I'm lookin at the map she said go through cuchillo hit Winston and also she said theres a ghost town in chloride or near it and theres Indian hieroglyphs--sp-- but she said theres cool paintings on the walls there

Come to think of it, John, I have a piece of amethyst that was dug up near Chloride. It's not gem quality, but it's pretty in its own right. I'd love to go check it out with you...if it ever stops snowing. :PS

Sands, Too bad you weren't searching for the rare tumbleweed...I think you would've hit Paydirt! Glad you were able to get out and do some exploring around a bit. Good-Luck getting in closer, cause that looks like it would be one heck of a hike, and that's just getting there...I could only imagine coming back out loaded with goodies. Steve
