Couldn't tell you for certain, but whatever it is, it sure is purrrty! It looks almost too red for Carnelian, but I'm sure that is probably top quality Carnelian. I'm sure Melwill chime in with the correct answer....Mel....it's your turn. Steve

That does look like carnelian, but unless you've already worked the surface, it looks much smoother than any Oregon carnelian I've seen. I'm not saying it isn't Oregon carnelian, but here's a piece of stuff from Oregon I have:

When I first started hanging round ya'll...I was really confused about carnelian. But I've been watchin & reading & learning from all of you & I've found that carnelian comes in a pretty wide range of shapes & color hues. I've got some nodules & slices from my rock shop owners collection that she personally collected that look real similar to the above...then I've got some pieces that are smoother nodules AND a little lighter in color. Soon as I get my puter able to post pics again...lets do a show & tell...Kay?

I agree with Mel, Looks like Classic Lebanon Carnelian. It nice a pretty nice piece, personally i dont like to see the faded gray areas in carnelian, and allot of Oregon C would do this. Which is more of a staining on the outer surface of the gray agate to a red color. If the color retains like when you back light it, that would be awesome.

John- Sorry the back is gone on ya again- I pulled a shoulder muscle last week and had a heck of a time cabbing for more than 10 mins- but it's getting better! Shain- If you turn your avatar 180 degrees the brown area would look like one of those Watusi cattle!
