So John, is the official name Candy Rock? Did you get to name it or was that an existing local name?

Wow. That's awesome. Wish I could do some rockhounding like that. Most good rocks I've ever found at one time was just enough to fill a ziploc baggie. I would love to be able to find a truck bed full of cool stuff like that!

Not to mention one of the Ks guys. your last posts have been the straw that broke the camels back. I have lived in Ks all my life, there have only been two times before this I have thought about moving out of state, the first was when I was in Law enforcement, I thought about Okc pd or Highway patrol but I am not big enough for either (have you seen these guys, flippen huge) and the second I was waiting for a PD job interview in Co. when something happened in front of me I didn't like so told them I had changed my mind and left.
Now my youngest daughter is 16, the other two have thier heads screwed on pretty good, one boy is in germany, and the in other Hi. There is NOTHING holding me here after grandma passes away. So why not go somewhere that I can walk into the backyard or drive 30 mins and find some great rocks?

Sure . . . now you wanna sign a long term lease at the campground, right? ;D
You need an apprentice, John. Some kid after school, instead of a paper route. You just drive down the road, he sits in the back, you pull over . . . "Ok, pick that one up." You stroll around . . . "Alright, dig out this one."

So why not go somewhere that I can walk into the backyard or drive 30 mins and find some great rocks? If the time is right to pull up roots and make a change, great. But, I have one of the midwest guidebooks and there's a pretty big Kansas chapter that I haven't read. But, I have read Missouri, Nebraska, etc.--the states that I have been in-- and there is a lot of rock to be found. So don't get frustrated -- start doing some research and find some places to go hounding closer to home. This at least will give you something of an outlet while you figure this out. Don't forget, too, that if you are already in Kansas you are a day closer to Wyoming and Montana destinations than we are, and if you are careful you can do it on the cheap. I am telling you this because I have been fighting the allure of the West for years. It isn't practical in many ways.

I got my box last night. I will put up a pic later. Looks nice, and the end-cut of breccia is really pleasing.
