Hey Mitch, I'm glad to see you grabbed those ziplock bags before you left, I felt bad because you missed out on part of the prize give aways. Too bad that picasso marble broke but the Texas state cut out you made looks wonderful, should polish up just fine. Nice pictures Gil and Dan. Susan, glad to see the pups are all doing good, can't wait to see them again in the fall, hint hint! Sheri, call me as soon as you can ok ? That damn guy, I want to smack some sense into him.
Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

That's OK jamie. I felt bad because I really didn't have anything to add to the prize dealy. We've just started this hobby really and well, I just don't have much "stock" at all.
Was it you that gave us the chrysocola slab? Thanks so much if you did. i still don't know who gave me that big hunk of pet wood. hell, it has to weigh 7-8 pounds I bet.
Awesome pics Dan, thank you for taking them and sharing them with us.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done. George Carlin

I took a few short movies at the ranch as well... I was taking them for Lainy so the narration is kind of dorky.. at least it is to me.. but I figured you guys might want to see a few...
here's the first one: i walked to the top of a hill we had been hunting on the East side of the ranch. It was pretty windy and we had a little bit of rain and hail earlier.
...you can see my truck a the bottom of the hill if you look closely...

Hey thanks Curt! I'll send you a PM..
Jack Rabbit
I saw plenty of these and cotton tails... They made me jump more than couple of times.. They would hide until you walked too close and then they would take off like a rocket! ;D
Wow Spike, that's one heck of a fine red plume you have in that slice on the lower right. Nice shape and orientation too, practically a ready made cab. Can't wait to see that one polished....mel

You guys are great - I've loved seeing the pictures and hearing the tales of your experiences out there - not to mention the feeling of family that this board has - all the different backgrounds, different viewpoints, different approaches - all coexisting - it's really cool to be here.
Thanks Mel, that means a lot. I have been thinking that I will have that one flat lapped to be my souvenir from the trip. the biscuit was not very thick so the slab (slice is a better word) is under 1/4. I did my best on it but that is the way it goes.
There is one more rock (that I know of) that is crazy good. it was encased in basalt but instead of red it has yellow ocular patterns. I know this because I did a end slice but accidentally mixed the parent into a box of misc.
I learned a lot about the Basalt on this trip, understand now what will have nodules and or biscuits and what will not. I have laughed at myself over what I thought the first day verses the last.

Onewoman, you have no idea how true that is. I have never expierenced anything like the past week. Instant lifelong friends, I was and am amazed.

Spike: I know it's aggravating but it does seem the best biscuits are one cab wonders. Since most have to be sliced parallel to the top and bottom for the best plume exposure, that usually means just one cut on most the smaller biscuits. Sometimes though, I find I can get good cabs by dopping the two heels and grinding down through the skin to expose plumes just under the shell. Lots of work but you can sometimes get some great cabs that way as often spectacular plumes curve right along the perimeter of the nodule....mel
