You're so right Sheri... I feel blessed and grateful to have been there w/so many kind, generous, and thoughtful people. I shared my finds with folks who were just as thrilled to see them as me. We shared some stories, and told some jokes while sitting at the camp fire! I hunted rocks with friends as well as alone for hours in those hills.. just being quiet.. walking and looking. I gained some knowledge from some experts and I meet some of the best friends I will ever have. I needed all those things.
I hope we all got some things we needed... I'm pretty sure we all did.
Thank you all for making it such a great experience.

All the reasons why I love this Board were magnified tenfold at the Ranch. Most of the time I'm a cranky old human-hatin' hermit, but I felt like you all were FAMILY.
We should buy some land and start a commune. Rock on Rock family.

And if the wind is out of the right direction and you listen real hard you may...just may...hear "I'm busy" echoing across the hills.....
Although I am still embarrassed about the "incident"...I do have to laugh...

LMAO, nothing to be embarassed about Tom, you did a hundred times more than I was able to on the peak. And while I hate that the "incident" happened to you I will never forget it.

Welcome back buddy (Pho). We weren't going to let you go that easy. Besides, you promised me more good music. I'm especially looking forward to that German soft music you were telling me about.

The wind must be blowing west Tom, I'm hearing it way out here in Calif! All the people who were there got scratched off my list of "Best friends I never met" and moved over to my new list, "Best damn friends a person can have, and love rocks too"! Just remember, and this goes for anybody on the board, if you're anywhere near the SF Bay Area, let me know when you'll be here so we can get together.

What incident? Are you guys keeping secrets now? Was it funny, was it bad, was it something like snipe hunting? Enquiring minds want to know. ;D

I have to say - as somewhat of an "outsider" (just from being fairly new here - everyone here has made me feel more than welcome!) and as a bit of a loner - even I have even been tossing around trying to go next year after just hearing the tales and the stories of this trip and the experiences everyone had. Now to sell it to my partner. I'm not sure she's going to go for me flying across the country...by myself...to be driven out to the middle of the desert...to meet up with a bunch of 'strangers'...that I met on the internet...to look for rocks...while not showering for a week...of course the part about wanting to go do something with a group is so out of character I'm not sure anything past that will even be heard. ah well - she does understand finding good people though - so I've got that going for me. This is an unbelievable group.

Onewoman and cpdad, I have a confession to make (don't tell anyone, ok?) up to a hour before I left to go down there I was trying to think of a excuse not to go. It took everything I had to turn the car south, but I have never done a better thing. If there was a post saying there was going to be another gathering next week I would beg, borrow or steal (ok maybe not the last one) to find a way to be there. Onewoman bring her along (one more strong back to haul your rocks out of the field) cpdad buy a large tent like Jamies Woodward Hilton that will save more money for more rocks and come join in the fun.

Hey Kev, what happened to that plane cp was flying? Just grab that and you'll beat all of us there! Now Mark, look at the fun you would have missed. It's not every day you get to sit down with a Hippie, drink beer and yuk it up like there's no tomorrow. Have you heard from Hooba?

Cool pics inside the rock shop! I would have spent all my time in there! LOL! Are those wild pigs in the pics? Funny looking things aren't they?

It's well worth the effort to get to the ranch if you can but not just for the rocks, for the whole experience as well. Who knows? You might see a super-callused fragile mystic w/chronic halitosis or hear the spirit of the hoobs whisper in your ear. Find the elusive green burrito agate and be the envy of your mineralogy club! Watch entire mountains disappear in the mist. Discover amazing rock formations that look incredibly like the initials 'RTH'! Good to see you back Tom.. I'll be listening to the wind on the next trip..

Ed, it was a Honor and a privilege to sit up with you that night. As far as Hooba goes: I sprung Grandma from the nursing home today so if Hooba followed me here she is running around screaming into the night by now. God knows I am on the verge.

Mark - I'd have done the exact same thing - that's what I usually do when I've got someplace to go - try to come up with some reason not to! Glad you talked yourself into it - sounds like you made memories you'll never forget. That's saying a lot. Now, to remember all this for next year...
