Spikeict: What an incredible selection of material you guys brought home. That nodule with the clear area looks like it could've come from the Bishop Ranch Bouquet beds south of Marfa and the red banded one on the right looks like Chihuahua material. Terrific cuts!. You guys got me so stimulated that I spent part of the afternoon going through my Woodward bins and sorting out a bunch of small nodules to chop up on the Workforce for tumbler slabbettes. Hope mine turn out as pretty as the ones you guys are posting!..mel

I recently gave my older Son the Celtic Cross I made from Dan's design. It turned out very pretty after all and he cherishes it. It's so shiny.
When little rockhound saw that, he wanted something and decided on the State of Texas of all things! I tried many slabs and sizes and finally chose a chryscola slab some kind person gave my at Woodward. Here it is. Start to finish incuding the failures. My first choice was a beautiful slab of what looked like some greenish pertified (another gift from woodward folks). It *&!#!&* cracked at a fracture, but it would have been wonderful. My next choice was some real mossy agate that had a bit of plume action goin for it. It looked solid. Here was the pattern laid out. Here you see the *&!#!&* peice cracked. As I was doing some "finishing" touches...."CRACK!". I said a cuss word. Also, shown is the cool slab of chrsyocola that fit the pattern perfectly! SAVED my butt!Wow! It cut pretty good! Let me see if I can do some hand polishing on it!Wow! He's gonna love it! Thanks to the unknown chrysocola slab!! You made a little boy very happy!I'll round off the corners and polish the sides some....that outta finish it off.
Heck, kinda proud of it myself. Thanks for lookin'!

Cher, only three rocks in the fireplace didn't come off the Ranch - two stalagtites and something else that I forgot.
It's even more beautiful in person. You can see the different types of agate peaking out of the matrix and some giant polished pieces. They say it took 2 weeks to build and two generations to collect all the different rock. I'd love to hose the whole thing down and look at the pieces gleam when wet!

Hey Lone, I sure like what you're making for your boy there, hope you will remember to post a picture when you're all done. It's going to be beautiful, those colors are awesome!
Wow! I can see why it took two generations to collect all that rock, hard to believe it all came from their ranch, that's really cool.

Nice pics Sheri. In the fourth pic of Needle peak, is that the Texas version of Mt Rushmore? It's a good thing I didn't see their fireplace, I would have had my hammer out and grabbing a chunk to bring up to the cabin to cab it. Awesome.

Here are some more needle peak pics mostly scenery: On the way to it down a dry stream bed. This is a terrible picture, but the white spots are then sheets of calcite or mica. It looked like broken glass littered across the ground. On the peak. From the peak. In front of the parked trucks. Whale bone and blubber.
