I've noticed quite a few times lately, someone asking ... where you from ... mostly in reference to seeing pics of "local rocks" we've tumbled. So where the heck are you from ... don't need a life's history, just where ya living now and what does your area offer in the way of "local rocks". Might be a nice reference for some trades/sales of stuff that members in other areas would like to try.
I live in Northeastern Minne-snow-ta, USA. Local rocks that I've id'd for tumbling in my area are Lake Superior Agates, quartz, jasper (red, yellow, banded, brecciated), hematite, greenstone, petrified wood and a lot more that I have no idea what it is but it tumbles nicely.

Hi Chere, Just runnng through the postings kinda fast but had to reply.
That's a real good idea you have there!
Do you think a separate section with members photo's and a quick Bio would work?

I am from and live in northern Ohio. I mostly have beach rocks and just some tumblers. I do however have a large chunk of India Agate that weighs over 4 pounds. Harry

From deep South Texas Near the Rio Grande River.
Got Rio Grande agate, petrified wood, occasional fossils, chert, flint, and jasper; all from our gravel pits and conglomerate formations.

Michigan, (duh!) Genesee County to be exact.
Got pretty much anything you can imagine. The glaciers scraped rock anywhere from the Arctic Circle down through Canada and left it here for me to find.

Good Day- I'm here in Arizona. Sunny 70 degrees. Perfect rock hounding weather if I didn't have to work. I'm going to try Burro Creek again this weekend. I have different Agates, and barrels of what they call around here as Coconut Agate, being so white. I have Jasper, so far mostly Red and Yellow. I have Green Quartz, and Apache Tears. That is all I've been able to find. There is much more in the state but... It's been a strange year and I have not been able to get out as much as I'd like.

New Mexico...agate, jasper, obsidian, fossils, minerals of many varieties. Much of the good stuff is in the SW quadrant of the state. Just moved here three months ago, so I'm still learning my way around.

Great idea, Cher! I live just 4 miles down the road from Llana so pretty much all I find locally is flint, but we do have some pretty nice flint!
How about if we all (or all of us that want to) put where we're from in our signature? I don't know about the rest of you, but by tomorrow I will have forgotten what area of the planet you all live in! (Possibly a slight case of CRS, but don't tell anyone!)

Born and raised in San Francisco, now in "Silly-con Valley", San Jose, Ca. Best weather in the country, never too cold, too hot, too dry, too wet, just right for rockhounding. Got some nice jasper only 10 miles down the road in Morgan Hill, lots of quartz, and I check out the local streambeds here in San Jose and find lots of different types of rocks, not sure what alot of them are, but cool nonetheless. Got beaches within an hours drive and they are always a mish-mash of what the tides bring in from wherever. And, I got Home Depot landscape rock which is full of suprises.
Hey Halibut, Welcome to the board. Didn't know you were in Ca. I've got a book says there is alot of nice jasper, jade and agates up your way.
