I remember a little while back someone posting a message about finding cool rock specimens at their local pet shop. Well, yesterday I was in a SuperPetz and sure enough, there were some big, beautiful onyx chunks and some big, beautiful chunks of some jaspery-looking rock. Obviously these were there to serve as aquarium decorations, but the prices were decent and they have great potential for sawing, cabbing, breaking up and tumbling, etc.. Rockhounds should be aware that your local pet shop may be worth a visit. Not your typical "pet rock"!

Noted.
I used to work in a few pet shops in my young days & we always got this "rainbow stone" used to decorate aquariums & terrariums. It was quite popular because it was fairly cheap It was artificialluy made of layers of colored sand and clay that was pressure baked to harden it & then sand blasted into cool shapes and epoxy coated.
The odd time we would get in some real stone that might have been good for lapidary but I never really took to it. I guess I like to find my own rocks rather than buy manufactured rocks...
