The pad has to be contact cemented to the disc. The leather has to be contact cemented to the pad. It has to be done in that order or the pad will eventually pull away from the disc. To polish. Get a bowl. Put the polish in the bowl, a small amount. With the disc turning, use a small piece of sponge, wet, to pick up the polish. Transfer the polish with the piece of wet sponge to the leather pad. A little bit goes a long way. Let it spin untill it is almost dry and touch the stone to be polished to the pad. Watch for the heat from friction. Be gentle, add more polish as needed. Do not add water to the polish! Use the wet sponge to pick up the polish to apply to the pad. Do not use a dripping wet sponge, damp/moist does the trick.

Larry, sign up and join the fun. The groove on the disc is for using chamois and polish for turquoise. The chamois is put on the disc wet, and tied down using the groove. Once wet, the chamois tightens down on the leather and is used to polish. C'mon dude, sign on and join the fun.

Doc, I used contact cement to glue the pad to the disc and it flew off when I was sanding using 220. I called the rock shop to find out why and they told me to use a permanent glue for gluing the pad to the disc. So, I glued that sucker with E6000. Haven't had any flying off problems since. I do use contact cement for glueing the sanding discs and polish pads though.
Well, actually I haven't used it for the polish pads because, thus far, I haven't polished anything. But, got some slabs out of polish today that are not to my satisfaction and plan on seeing if I can bring out a shine on them with the grinder.
Thanks for the polishing instructions I plan on doing that later this evening and was going to go on a search through the forum for instructions either you or Sands had posted a while back. Saved me alot of time and effort! You da' man!

Larry, I think probably most good craft stores carry E6000. I know Hobby Lobby does, also Hometown Crafts - that's where I got mine. And, of course, if you don't have a craft store near by, you can order it from a number of places online. I know FireMountain has it and their shipping is FAST. I have found it at other places online, but can't remember where.
Where do you live? I have never been to the Woodward Ranch, but know a lady that lives at Terlingua Ranch and spent a week out there rockhounding several years ago. Lots of really neat stuff out there. She has known the Woodwards forever and did lots of rockhounding on their place before they started opening it to the public. I'd love to go out there one of these days.

Yep, Hobby Lobby is definitely in SA. I go to the one of Bandera Road.
To join forum, go to the main page and at the top it says login or register. At least, I think that's what it says. Just look for someplace that says Register or Sign up or Join or something like that.
