I recently purchased a batch of rocks and were told they were emeralds. How could I tell if they are emeralds or not?

I can tell an emerald by the feel of the stone. I can even discern between lab grown, and manmade. Can you post a picture? I could probably tell by looking. Emeralds have a definate look. They range from clear blueish white, to T1 top green. They are mohs 7-7.5, full of inclusions, fractures, chips, and have graphite laced all around, through, and between the crystals. There has been a great deal of mine run emerald hitting the market. Most of it is low grade tumble stock, however in the low grade tumble stock is some awsome faceting stock. I will be honest. To me, the mine run is much more beautiful. Either tumbled, or faceted, or just kept in the pocket. Right now, I am faceting an 100.09 ct., T-1 top green. It is now about 65cts., and worth right now, about 3500$ a ct. The owner has already contacted me and told me the production they needed the stone for is maybe not going to go that route and I could keep the stone for all the work I did in faceting. I said, Thank you. I have faceted the bottom, from the girdle down the pavillion to keel, complete to final polish. It is drawing a crowd. You will find it in Docs emerald, in photos. Send me a photo, or post it. We will tell you. I betcha you didn't know, aluminum can look so beautiful.

I have some mine run emeralds, not facet quality, but so pretty tumbled. Usually in a black matrix. I set one for my mother in law for Christmas (she is Irish). I'll try to post a pic of what I have so you can see what "mine run" looks like. Good luck with them.
