Hey all. Quick question. I am on the last stage today and I have no plastic pellets. I was wondering if I would be able to cut up an old rag and use as a filler, or mabey like that hampster beddin( red cedder bedding)? Any suggestions would help thanks everyone.

I don't know about the others you mentioned but I think you can add enough sugar to make it like a thick syrup, that would stop the stones from banging against each other.

walnut shells? plastic pop beads? trying to think of stuff you may have at the house...cut up a plastic milk or water contain into tiny pieces? hmmmmmmmmm....little woodchips?
i wouldn't use rags, as i think that may just absorb the water/slurry/polish...the cedar chip might work. i've never tried to use sugar, tho i have read a little about it.
good luck, momma!

I've used a bunch of cut up rubber bands before. Seemed to work fine.

Been using cut up rubber bands for my last three batches and they seem to be working great.
49 cents a bag at Walmart.

I have been told by an experienced member of our rockclub that cut up leather belt, into strips, will do very well. As for myself , I am still using plastic pellets.

I can see where that would work good but the leather would absorb the water in the barrel. Did he mention if he soaked it first?

Greetings All,
Walnut shell can be found at pet stores where it is sold as cage liner for bird cages. I like it because I can wash it out into my outdoor rockpile with no worries about polluting the environment with plastic pellets or such.

Thank everyone I found a couple bags of rubber bands I had bought for the kids and there projects so I used them in the tumbler last night. I checked on them and they seem to be doing ok. Never heard of walnut shells I will have to try that too.
Thanks for the info. Helped A LOT
