:'(URRRGGG, I'm begining to feel like Charley Brown, everything I touch dies! I finally got the new trim saw down in the basement today and spent about an hour cutting rocks. I kept thinking "Wish I knew what thing is supposed to sound and smell like. Am I doing this right?" And then it died I called Kingsley North and it's under warrenty, he just has to find out if I send it to him or Inland directly. I also have to get the invoice from my mom, so I have to tell her it broke. Didn't really want to do that. It'll get fixed, one way or another, but it sure does ruin a rare day off to just play. cookie

Well, here's what I cut before it died It was fun while it lasted. I think I pushed the rocks too hard. The flint I tried to cut just wasn't having any of it. Is it me or the rock or the saw? cookie

Aww Cookie, I am so sorry. At least you got some stuff cut before it died. Was it smoking or did you notice any burnt smell, like burnt wiring or anything like that? Have you tried it since it died, I mean just to turn it on to see if it starts up? Just wondering if it might have been overheated and there possibly is a shut down switch in it? Just trying to think of any possibilities. That's such a bummer. Cher

Hi Cher, After it shut down I went to the store and was telling Bobby (the cashier I like to go to) what had happened. He called to another customer that was in the store, saying he was a carpender and knew about these things. The guy told me it probably blew a fuse and to look for a reset button on the motor. I searched and searched, but can't find one. The motor it's self is encased, as it can be converted to a router. It didn't smoke and smelled the whole time I was using it, but I didn't know if that was normal or not. Even the friendly customer said different rocks would have differant smells, but I don't know an "electrical" smell from anything else. I think I pushed the rocks too hard, but should it take that long to make a cut in 3 inches of stone? 2 or 3 minutes? cookie

that is SUCH a bummer, Cookie.. i had similar feelings when i started to use my trim saw and damamged the first few blades quite quickly from pushing too hard and at the wrong angle. sounds like you toasted the motor somehow....hopefully Kingsley can make it good again for you, still a shame! you got some good cuts tho! very nice pieces! ain't it fun (while it lasted) ? what is the word on a new tumbler, eh? best of luck, hang in there, KD

Cookie, I'm so sorry that happened when you were having such fun. Looks like you got some really pretty stuff cut before the darn thing died! If you were cutting 3" rocks, it should probably have taken more than 2 or 3 minutes to make a cut. You may have been pushing too hard. You said that it smelled the whole time. Was that the whole time the saw was running or just while you were actually cutting rock? You did leave the saw running between cuts, didn't you? What are you using for coolant? Really glad that your saw is under warranty so this problem can be fixed, but really sorry that you're gonna have to wait before cutting more rocks!
BE
PS: Wish I had a basement to do rock stuff in!

I unplugged it and plugged it back in , waiting several minutes between, with no luck. The motor did get very hot thoughj, and was still pretty warm after 30 minutes. Know what? It's been a couple of hours now, think I'll try it one more time. The thing I noticed was that the on/off switch, wich should only light up in the "on" position, stayed on after it died regardless of whether it was on or off, as long as it was plugged in. I'll give it one more try and let you know. OK, appearently I was pushing too hard if it takes that long to cut. I probably toasted the blade, too. I left the saw running, but wondered if that was the right thing to do. Now I know. Live and learn and move forward cookie

Cookster, that is truly poopy. Just proves I'm right to avoid high tech devices, I'd screw it up for sure. My Christmas present is an Estwing rock hammer. That, I can hopefully handle. What did you replace your dead TV-5 with? If you have mentioned, I missed it.
The pieces you cut up look good, though!!

yep, Cookie that's the spirit, if it were easy it wouldn't be so cool. and everyone would be doing it! lessons learned, get a spare blade. didn't Emerald (Helen) have problems with her saw too? where has she been anyway?
good luck Cookie, and what puppies said, true poop luck there, beter next time!

I've heard a rumor in my family about a replacement for the vibe, but I'm not going to curse by speaking it out loud ;D Thanks!

Hey Cookie,
Did you check the electrical outlet and be sure that you didn't trip a breaker in the house. If so, it can generally be easily reset.
On occasions .. this happens in my rock shop ... I blow a fuse or trip the circuit. Too much load for the service.
Worth a check!

This may be a dumb question, but does the blade spin freely? I've had a chunk of rock get caught between the blade and the table and stop my saw dead.

Hi Cookie , what a shame you have this problem after cutting those pretty looking rockpieces.
Hope you can get back to cutting soon .
Wishing you better luck in the new year . only 7 hours and 10 minutes to go

Hey cookie. Did you read the manual? Is there a troubleshooting section? The power light staying on all the time could be some sort of safety provision, alerting you that there is a problem which may be user fixable. By the way, things are moving along faster than expected on this end.

Yep, the blade spins. Kingsley North is gonna make good on it, I'm just feeling guilty that I did something wrong. cookie
