I was gifted some stones this week. There's over 5 pounds of amethyst and also a few pieces of turquoise and some rose quartz. I tried doing a search for turquoise but didn't come up with anything relating to tumbling it. Has anyone done this before?

Hi Cher, Though I've never tumbled turquoise, I have a friend that had a tumbling uncle who passed away. I purchased all of the uncle's stones. There were some beautifully polished turquoise pieces in the lot, so I have to say yes. Some were cabs, though, so he likely didn't use a rotary tumbler.

i'd hazard a guess that turquoise would be too soft to tumble. it's pretty pricey stuff too....take a photo, love to see it! and the other stuff too, lucky dog!

I have had turquoise come out great in a rotary tumbler. I used Aluminum Oxide and it finished very well. I had some with my saphires.

Thanks all. I have some budstone from Cal, would that be soft enough ... or too soft to do with turquoise? It's the only thing I have that might be soft enough.
