;DI usually use an ultrasonic cleaner and/or a small steam cleaner but sometimes I get reeeally stubborn stuff. So the other day I thought:Hmm,rotary tool with a wire brush.Brilliant!Works so well and quickly that this will be my first step from now on.P.S.don't use alminum-it can leave black marks.Mike.

CORRECTION: DON'T USE METAL BRUSHES. I bought a Dremel steel brush and it left silver marks. These buffed out easily on a well worn 600 diamond belt and I image tumbling would have worked as well.I looked more closely at the original brush and it was some kind of fiber, probably nylon.Sorry!I think a soak in muriatic acid on hard rock might work too. This is what is often used on large nice Lakers to get them clean before applying mineral or cooking oil for "shine".If you try this,do it outdoors in a glass only container, use rubber gloves and a mask and any other safety precautions you can think of.Mike.
