Hello all. I have just started to tumble rock and am having some problems. I have been trying to tumble green adventurine with tiger eye, red agate, carnelian, and brazil agate. All of my rocks polished except the green adventurine and the tiger eye. Anybody experience this before? I would live your help! thanks,
Benoit.

Aventurine and Tiger Eye take forever. I had to tumble my Blue Aventurine for three full tumbles before it shined up.

It's probably the polish you're using. Rule #1: When all else fails, ues tin oxide. Also, you might want to try doing a 1000 grit step prior to polishing.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
I have had the best results with Tiger Eye when I used Tripoli as a pre-polish and then used Tin Oxide as a final polish.
I use a vibe tumbler and my pre-polish is 24 to 48 hours in Tripoli and then finish with 24 to 48 hours of Tin Oxide.
Hope this helps,

Tripoli is some great stuff. Cheap priced, but extremely effective.

I recently discovered Tripoli and was using it as a pre polish in my vibe before it died. I will continue to use it in my new rotary, makes a world of difference. I have yet to turn out out a good batch adventurine, but have done some pretty tiger and hawk eye that was pre-cut. I think the trim saw is the answer for alot of my fracture/dull finish stones.

I always seperate my Tiger Eye out when I have agates running too. They all go through the 1000 cycle but the Tiger Eye goes into tin oxide, and the agates go into Titanium oxide. I'd Probably throw the Green Aventurine in with the Tiger Eye. That's what I would do, and it's only for a week, then I would address what I had this time.

I didn't have any problem getting a shine on my tiger's eye, but have yet gotten the green adventurine to shine like I want. Just putting it all aside and will put it back into pre-polish, then polish when I have enough. I think I have some tin oxide too.

I have not tumbled tigereye, however, I have tumbled green aventurine using Cerium Oxide in the polish stage. I got a beautiful shine. This is the picture of most of them some I have sold and the others were very small. Of course the scanner really doesn't do them justice. Tami

I have never had any problems polishing tiger eye. I DO use prepolish for about 6 days after tumbling in all 3 grit phases for 6-7 days each. I have always obtained a great polish using Aluminum oxide, but others recommend Tin oxide. I think using prepolish of any kind (Tripoli, SISA, Perfection Pre-polish, or 1000 Silicon carbide grit) before using the polish of your choice will help your tiger eye shine brighter! ;D
