I'm looking into barrels and wanted to know which type is best: Thumblers or Lortone? Is there a difference between both? I don't currently have a machine as is , but I may get one made and I'd need a barrel or two (maybe one of each?)

Loretone, hands down. I use the loretone to model my PVC bbls. Bbl is an abreviation for barrel. I am very satisfied with my Loretone 33B barrels.

I have a Thumblers 3#. I like that it holds that much, as my rocks will come out of coarse from a 15# Thumblers model B. I have a machine that will run 2 barrels at the same time, but bear in mind, you will need the kind of barrel meant for your tumbler. You can't allways (if at all) interchange brands.

This may end up being a home made machine that I may be using, unless I get a good deal on a used one - Does #3 mean 3 lb of stone can be added? #15 means 15 lbs? That's a lot of rock!!!

It all adds up grasshopper. Wait untill you have five machines going full time.

Yes #3 = 3lbs and #15 + 15 lbs. I have been running Both brand tumblers for some years now and it would be hard for me to say which I think is better. I don't have any small Thumler's Tumblers but do have two 15 pounders. My Lortones run from the three 1-1/2 lb barrel unit up to a double 6 pound unit. I like them all!! Tom

SHHH Doc, don't confuse the poor newbie... Yes, Tweety, that what it means. And youre telling me! I have never had a 15 lb barrel, or even a rotary tumbler for that matter. (I had a 3# Raytech Vibe for the first 9 months of tumbling, so this is all new to me, too!). I have recently acquired a home hade machine and the 3# Thumblers barrels fit. Find out from your maker what size and/or brand you will need. cookie

I know I saw your nice homemade machine (lucky you! - hopefully dad's gonna build me one (maybe if I'm lucky, I'll have it before next christmas). I'll probably have him make the bbls as well, he seemed to think it would be a good idea. Not sure, but this machine may only cost me a small amount of $. But knowing my dad, this thing will have EVERY bell & whistle that is available, once complete, this thing might be able to wash windows & do dishes too! Poor little me will have to wait forever for completion.
