I have used a produce we call Iron Out and it worked fairly well....not sure what you wuld call it over there. The product is mostly used as a bathroom tub and sink cleaner to remove iron/rust stains. We found it in the plumbing section of our local hardware store...hope this helps.

that is always a problem (UK/US names for things), drove my husband crazy the first couple of years he lived here (still does occasionally at the hardware store). we used to have cultural hissy fits in the grocery store too. (not a pretty sight). and of course there are things we simply don't have an equivalent for like Bisto, OXO and Bird's Custard..we order our Christmas Puddings and other unobtainable items from UK Goods online.
not that all this blathering helps you, Billyd..but Pho may be on to something with the Iron Stain cleaning products, i'm sure they have equivalent type things (even in Scotland ;D). be careful not to use bleach tho!
good luck,
KD

did you try pool acid? Sodium bisulphate is used for pickle for soldering, reducing the ph in pools, and in general burning holes in clothes. If you have a pool supply house, try pool acid. It is another name for sodium bisulphate.

I found oxolic acid by finding an old drug store. If you have a drug store in your town that has been there for many many years they sometimes carry stuff like oxolic acid. Medicaly it is used for something. The one pound bag I bought cost $5.00. So it isn't exspensive to buy. Good luck finding it.

I had an old cat named Lucky. He had three legs, half ripped off ear, missing several teeth, tail looked like a bent paper clip. He would always sleep on the foot of my bed, and he always would go out just to try his luck. He got mangled every night. One night, he dragged himself onto our back stairs. He was really bet up. Broken leg, lacerations, cut eye. He made it. He was my buddy. He died on my lap of old age! I was never sure he would make it to the next day for fifteen years. I never met a more torn up, mangled, beat up anything like Lucky. His claim to fame, he would bonk. He would line up at your forehead and ram you with all he had. It really hurt. He would do it over and over. He would wake me up when he wanted to go out by bonking really hard. He was a real character.

another use for oxilac acid is taking iron stains out of wood. it is sometimes used in deck wash products, check the label I have gotten it as a powder or a liquid. the last powder I got at a Sherwin Williams paint store.
