Well I just orderd 3 pounds of Mexican Lace Agate and 1 pound of Red jasper from Brazil. I cant wait to see the Rocks. Can someone tell me how hard those rocks are. I would think that the Mexican Lace Agate is a 7. Dont no about the Red Jasper. Well thanks.

jasper has a large range, but generally in the 6 to 7 range, safe to tumble with your Mex Lace..can't wait to see the finished batch!

Solid agates like carnelian, brazillian agate, etc, are really hard. 7 on the mohs for sure.
Most jaspers and softer agates like the ever "crumbly" Mexican lace are about a 6.5. The .5 difference is actually quite significant, even though it sounds small.
Moonstone is about a 6 and is way softer than agate or jasper. Take obsidian for example. It's only about a 5 on the mohs and is extremely soft.
You can tumble material ranging from 6-7 together just fine, in most cases.
