Hey Yall, Hows it going?
I have another question if you all could help. Ok, my agates have ben in the first stage tumbling for about 21days today. Only about 20 rocks were able to come out and there waiting for the others for stage two. I have rocks in the tumbler that are kind of lumpy. They dont have any cracks or crevices or anything like that there just lumpy. Can I take those out or should I leave them in untill there all round?
Any suggestions Please.
Thanks momma

hi momma when you like the shape then its time to move them on if they had cracks and holes id say let them stay another week and see,, but if they look good to you go for it

Barring any 'defects', leave them as they are. The more shapes and sizes you have - the better results you get.

Hey guys thanks for the info. really appreciate it. I did check on them again and I really like some of them with the lumps but I decided to put them back in, I will check on them again in a few days. Hopefully some will be ready to come out.
Another question is what would be the bast polish to use?
thanks: momma

that is a question we all struggle with, Momma. we all have our personal opinions but if you have nice hard rocks and the shape is good, Aluminum Oxide will work just fine. if you have stubborn or softer stones, try some Titanium Dioxide and you can NEVER go wrong with Tin Oxide, but that is a little on the pricey side.
good luck!

Hi there all just wanted to put my to cents in. I think Cerium Oxide Polish works great for hard Rocks. What do you all think about Cerium Oxide Polish?

i've never heard of Lustrite II to be quite honest as a polish for rotary tumblers, and Noosh, my experience with Cerium was not very good, but maybe i got the wrong grade?
i see where there are all different kinds..optical grade? i bought some fairly inexpensive stuff and i think it maybe more of a pre polish than anything..but i really dont know.
Momma, try some cheap and cheerful AO (Aluminum OXide) and go from there, my opinion,

KD, Were you prepolishing as you do now? Did you let the polish cycle run as long as you do now?? Cerium ain't all that bad. Tom

Momma, I say use the stuff you bought and let us know the results. The only thing that could happen is they have to got through polish one more time, and what's another week? I also like cerium oxide on agates. Have gotten some beautiful results. I have also used optical grade CO and it was like icing on the cake. Good luck!

Thanks for the info everybody. I wrote everybodys opion on the polish down so I can at least go out and buy it. I have right know AO so I will use that and see what kind of results I get and let yall know. The Lusterite II that I have when I was using it on my rocks the kidos found in the yard did not polish those, so maby I should have used the AO to see if they would polish. OOOHHHH well, but I will see what happens with this and post them good or bad to see what they look like. Thanks everyone.

Momma, I've never tried Lustrite II either, but I have to agree with Cookie. If your stones are ready for polish, I would try it and see if you like the results. We're all constantly experimenting. Please let us know how your experiment turns out!
