Hi everyone, Well we got back from Denver, Colorado on Sunday and it was straight out to the rock shop. I purchased a used (in very good condition) Gy-Roc 10 pound tumbler from Egger's Lapidary in Golden, Colorado. If you remember ... my old tumbler's motor went on vacation ... permently. I was going to have the old motor rebuilt ... and after they got to the motor, I got a phone call stating that it was un-repairable So, that is why I purchased the used Gy-Roc. I gave 80.00 for a complete unit, one extra bowl and lid and a hand full of springs. Not bad, considering that this unit sells for 340.00 new. So ... I got my old tumbler back out and transfered the 7 1/2 pounds of nearly finished stones to the new machine. Turned it on and the belt broke . I found a spare belt and turned it on ... I once again heard that familiar sound of progress. I went out this morning to cut some opal for a jeweler and discovered that the belt I had just replaced was in two as well ... it should be ready to take out and I have yet to get back to it. I will get some photo's of the stones posted as soon as I get some photo's taken. This up again and then down again is for the birds ;D which by the way are south for the winter all I need now is for them to fly back and carry my troubles north ;D Enjoy, John

Ummm John? I'm sorry for your tumbler troubles but could I ask a favor please .. Don't send them north ok, find someway to ship them south. ;D Don't need anymore troubles heading north. That sounds like a very good deal you got, hope you get the belt problems solved soon. Need more eye-candy to drool over. Cher

So sorry John, but, as you well know, such is the life of a tumbler. It can rain pennies or it can rain poo, usually the later. I don't even want to think of the money spent... Hope they finished before the belt broke (again). When my vibe died I was in polish but everything turned out pretty good ;D

John, what is causing the broken belt situation? No point in replacing the belt if it is going south one more time. Burr, misalignment, too much tension?

Hi John and welcome back! I would be thinking in the same direction as Doc. Either the second belt you used was almost shot or you may need to do a little lube work on the new (used) unit. Tom

I am so sorry for you. I think I would go absolutely insane if my tumblers were to break down. Here's a strong wish for good luck for you! Harry

Hi everyone, I think my main problem was the first belt was years old, and the replacement belt I put on was a used belt and it should have just been thrown away ... but I kept it as a spare. It worked for a couple of days and it got the job done ... so I can't complain! The Gy-Roc Viberator uses an oring as a belt and my local auto shop has plenty of them. A new belt (oring) will generally last me 4 to 6 months ... and when I am tumbling 24/7 for that long ... that's pretty darned good! Take care, John
