There was an article in the paper here today that said about the same ting LadyT said. It's really unfortunate that some one would go off the deep end like that and mess up the rest of their life.

While being in "love" has historically made a LOT of people make BAD decisions, the fact that she wore an astronaut's diaper so she wouldn't have to stop to pee makes me think that this woman had other seeeeerious problems...

I think a lot of the details have yet to come out, but I suspect this woman has some serious mental problems. Even if they find out that it was all just to scare the other astronaut, I can't possibly imagine that any astronaut would want to be on a flight with her ever again, so yes, career destroyed. It reminds me somewhat of a case in Lethbridge, Alberta a couple years ago, where a city alderman, seemingly a happily married woman and mother, went missing for several days, then turned up wandering around Las Vegas, claiming she'd been drugged, raped and abducted. After questioning, she admitted that she ran off for an affair with a married man from Lethbridge. She soon went back to the abduction story though, claiming the police had forced her to make a false confession. The looked into her history, and she had previously made several claims to the police that she was being stalked and sent letters from a stalker, but the police later found those letters on her own computer. It was a big sensational thing, at least in Canada, seeing this politician crash and burn. She still insists that the abduction story is the real story. I think she honestly believes that to be true, at least in one part of her head. But in the end, whatever the reason for her bizzarre behaviour, I sure wouldn't want her on city council again, or in any other position of responsibility for that matter. There is something fascinating about these stories, I think in part because these are the kind of people that we don't think would ever behave that way, and in part because such bizzarre behaviour is by its very nature rather fascinating. Here's the link for the Lethbridge case, if anyone is interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dar_Heatherington

It is strange. They have pretty tight psych screening for that program. How did she slip past?

Hey Rollingstone, don't mean to change the subject here, but I stayed at Henderson Lake campground in Lethbridge, two or three years ago on my way to visit the Banff/Jasper area. It was in June, and there was some severe flooding going on. On our way back we checked out Chinatown and ate at the Silver Dragon Restaurant. Man, was that Chinese food good! Cool to read from someone from out there. I sure wish I lived there.

Three kids and she's the one wearin' the diaper . . . just a little confused, that's all.
I hear her lawyer plans on using the "electrical/cosmic radiation made me do it" defense. Already got Doc lined up as an expert witness.

Yep , It's a sad thing. She's headed out to Houston this morning. I will be glad to get the tv back. Media coverage has been unbelievable!! They are breaking into shows and everything else. Almost impossible to not know what's going on with her around these parts.

I was wondering the same thing Daniel... How did she get past the psych screening for the astronaut program. But on the other hand I would think that the type of personality that would make it into the Astronaut program might have obsessive tendancies with a strong drive to succeed at any cost. She was willing to do anything to get what she wanted....

I'm actually about a 5 hour drive (300 miles) north of Lethbridge, but even up here the main river through the city rose 20 feet vertically. I've noticed that your avatar is a shot of Moraine Lake and the surrounding peaks. That scene was on the old Canadian dollar bill, from about 30 years ago (now replaced with various anti-counterfeiting stuff). A really beautiful spot, for certain! Did you spend much time around Jasper? -- that's the mountain area I'm most familiar with. -Don

We spent a total of ten days in, and around the Banff/Jasper area. Man, is that beautiful country or what? We saw lots of wildlife, and incredible waterfalls. So many bears. We plan on going again in the next two or three years. This summer it will be Yellowstone (again). You are so fortunate to live there.
