Well The wife and I are selling our Camping truck- as we don't need to haul the trailer anymore- So we are gonna have a small windfall (after the trailer is all paid off and the camping site is paid for next year- we should have a couple thous left) So I approached her with the idea of picking up a few items for our hobbies (she sews- I um play with rocks) So she is thinking about it- So here is my dilema- I have a nice 2 drum ginder already- It is good solid and weighs a ton (well 60 some Lbs actually) so I'm thinking- gosh a Genie is what I want- But those things ain't really all that portable- and I really would like to have a cabber at the campsite- So I'mm thinking that new Diamond Pacific- Big foot- or a Pixie- We have a pretty good sized camper (32 foot) but I would have to confine my cabbing to outside (not a problem as we have a 21 foot awning and I'm gonna build a decK) But will I really use a grinder up at the site- (in other words do I need 2 grinders) or should I sell my Old Lortone and just get a genie- and be done with it? Opinons wanted!

Stefan, I'm in no position to give grinder advise as I'm still waiting to order mine, but if you're planning on carrying this thing around the bigfoot looks portable (i guess you'd have to anchor it down to work so it doesn't wander while grinding) but how much abuse of the back and forth will it be receiving (bumps in the road stuff like that) how much can it stand before something breaks. I'd personally love a genie or Diamond Pacific anything but how much grinding will you really be doing camping? Shouldn't you be fishing? Heck get a Diamond Pacific for home & a BigFoot for the camp

Get the best you can afford but remember, cabber won't do you any good if you can't buy more rocks, so you might want to keep that part in mind too.

OMG Cher- the slabs I still have to work- I have a drawer that has close to 10 Lbs of slabs in it- If I really focused I probably could get them all cut and ground (grinded??) in about a year!

Are you 100% sure that you won't ever want to take a vacation or move the trailer again? Seems like a pretty big step to be permanently stuck in one spot.

That's a tough one Stef! Can you get a new one and hold off selling the old one for a couple of months? Then you can see how the new one fits into your life. If you get the smaller Pixie now and decide you want the Genie later you could sell both old grinders. I think a new Pixie would have a good resale value. Good luck with your dilemma.

Ha ha ha! That might have been my quickest way to grind. Thanx Ed, I really needed a laugh. Hmmm, with my luck it may still be the quickest way for me to grind! New Lortone SHOULD arrive tomorrow. Who's excited, me??

I need some more info please. How much time do you spend camping? Do other campers also stay at your camp site? Do the other campers go camping for peace and quiet? How will your camping buddies react to the grinding noise? {If it was me I'd be pissed 1) that you have a grinder and I don't and 2) your disturbing my peace and if I can't grind, no one can} And why do you go camping, to spend some time with wife and kids or to grind (I know, these questions will get me into trouble but I think they needed to be asked)

LMAO- Well the Truck is an 86 I ton Chevy- Gets about 6 to 8 MPG and we have only used it 3 times in the past year- So the seasonal site is what we are gonna stick with for the next couple of years! We will be camping every weekend this year (when gas was cheaper that is what we where doing!) But Robert you do bring up a good point- We have a very large site (actually 2 site turned into one)- but we go camping to get away from it all- (heck we even opted out of the cable tv hookup) So I think maybe I'll have to hold off for now- Dang Now I'll have to admit to the wife that I don't really need another grinder!

Hi Stephan, My husband & I are full-time RV'ers so space is always a concern. I opted to go with an Ameritool flatlap. Absolutely LOVE it. Takes very little room - even with all the laps I've got (a bunch) & does a wonderful job. Just something to think about. Jo

Well, just because you don't really need two grinders doesn't mean you don't need a new grinder! Sell the lortone, buy the genie!

stefan i was thinkin about gettin another genie for the trailer and use the one for where ever i set up cause i get the urge in the middle of the nite to make cabs -- so if i was you i wouldent get rid of the other grinder till you see how it feels to ya and yes id get a genie if i can lift it in and out with a bad back you wont have any trouble its not realy all that bad like maybe 50lb or so hey its not easy for me but i can still doit haha---- but if nuttin else do what i did and use the other grinder for a buffing machine i have a felt wheel on one side for zam and a expandable drum on the other side with a leather belt for my m-5 polish this way i dont have to keep takin off the side of the genie to spin on the buff pad cause you cant leave it on or it will get water and what ever throw up on it and get cantaminated so ya have to take it off and put the plate that stops the water from comin out the side back on with three screws hell i even hated typin that as much as takin it apart hahaha
