These two are Pet wood from my second and third day with a grinder. These have been done and redone a couple of times. They represent a lot of learning to me. I'll keep 'em forever. Hope you like them. Criticism is welcome, I want to learn more. Thanx for looking. Rough Not as rough

Those look great Joe. Bearcreek once suggested that anyone doing cabs should put one a week in a drawer, and after a year or so, go back and look through them to check your progress.

Thank you for the kind words. I just tried to follow the shape of the stone. Also tried to give it one of those sexy curves like Ed does but I need more practice! Stef that is off the trizact but... I had finished it and was gonna take pics. When I did I saw all sorts of shiny scratches. I took it back down the belts in reverse order 'till I was back to 100. That finally took most of the scratches out and I worked my way back up to Trizact. There must be 8 hours work on just those two stones. The education I got from them is invaluable!! The nine cuts on my fingers aren't. Buy stock in band aids as I need to buy more soon!

Joe I hear ya! Man i got both my Fingers this weekend- and I'm a hunt and peck typer- so I feel real burdened at work today- 8 hours on those stones? Well I admire your patience- I cabbed for about 6 hours Yesterday but have nothing to show for it- Never even left the 100 belt! I gotta learn to cab in smaller lots- this 30 to 40 stone thing is just too much!

Great look cabs there, Joe! Looks to me like you're your own best teacher. If those are from only the 2nd & 3rd day, I can't imagine what you'll be coming up with in 6 months or so. Looking forward to seeing more! Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks all I'm itchin' to go grind some more rocks but the weather has turned cold, windy and snowy. That makes my garage an awful cold place to do wet hobbies! It's supposed to be spring. Thanx Pebbles. Good to see you again! 30~40 Stef!! Wow. That's a lot at once. No I spent all my time on those two. I'll call them my "classroom cabs" because they taught me so much. It was interesting to take a stone I thought was finished and run it backwards through the belt sequence. Closely observing the scratches at each stage was informative to me. The repolishing procedure made it gorgeous, in my ever humble opinion! Those finger cuts are real sore today!

Yea I try to do too much at once- I stopped last night- Culled out the 20 I wanted to see done- Tossed all the others in the trash (kidding) and went to 220- Man I even impressed my self at how they are coming along- Oh and the sore fingers- well I have a little remedy that works real well- Take some Bag Balm and put it on the cuts and burns- then cover with a bandaid- Leave it on all night and the next day (unless it get real dirty) then the next night- just before bed take off the badaid- put on a bit more bag balm- then go to sleep- By the next morning those fingers will be in a lot better shape!

Hey Joe,
Try an old trick of mine.
If you are just starting out with cab cutting ...
Take a cab a week and place it in a safe place and date the cab. Continue to do this for an entire year, then at the end of the year ... take the cabs out and arrange them by date.
This will allow you to see the progression of your cutting ability and what you once thought to be excellent cabs early in the year will soon become mediocre cabs, when compared to the quality of cabs that you will be cutting a year from now.
It's a very unique way to see how your cabbing skills have progressed.
Besides that ... at the end of a year ... you will have 52 cabs to use as you see fit ;D
Enjoy,
Bear

That's a good idea Bear, I will do that. Stef, I already use the bag balm and wear those latex type gloves to keep it from smearing around. It does help but I need to be more careful and get less cuts!

I just tried that Vetrinarian wound tape (sticks to itself and not to skin and fur) it works pretty good as it stays on even when wet- Does not provide as good a grip on the stone as skin does- but I ran my finger on the 220 belt for about 2 hours and it came out fine!

Grinding= The death of a thousand cuts. Two days ago I started wrapping my main fingers with tape from the old kickboxing days. The stuff is cheap and it molds to your finger good. Today is my first bloodless grinding day! Of course I only worked the machine for 3-4 hrs. instead of 8. ***True Story Warning*** You know you got it bad when the yellow pet wood your working starts showing some lovely shades of red and you keep working it for twenty min. trying to bring out the red and then you realize it's your blood on the stone staining it red! You note this mentally and continue to work the stone, somewhat disappointed that the color isn't "real".
