I really don't consider these 'cabs' because by comparison they don't come close to the quality of the true cabs i've seen posted here. So i always hesitate to post them in this section.... ....anyway here's some of my favorites from a batch that finished yesterday.... Central Texas Quartzite... Rain Forest Jasper...this stuff undercuts pretty badly.. Not sure what this is but looks like Spider Web Obsidian to me....was found in some New Mexico river rock... I have no clue what this is and I need to get more so if anyone knows please help! Thanks for lookin'....hope y'all like 'em... ;D

Dan,
The one you think is spider-web...Don't know what it is, but I think it's worthy of giving it a name. (Not for you to give away...I just think it's one of those very special cabs .)
Looks like it could be a tsunami wave with a water spout above OR a double cliff waterfall. In any case...that's too cool!

Thanks for the comments everyone....I think the SpiderWeb is my favorite also. Maybe I'll do something with it....maybe not. I guess I could name it as Liz suggests....'Stormy Seas' ..or something like that...anyway...have a great one all...and thanks again!

looks good from here!!!!! Don't worry about posting those here- they qualify as cabs- just tumble polished cabs- Nothing wrong with that!!!! That last rock looks like a poppy jasper- but I have a feeling it is really a Texas Plume Agate- any chance you know where it came from?

Stefan - Texas plum would make sense 'cause they came from the Smithville, TX rock shop...one of the locals slabbed it and sold it on consignemnt. Texas Plum huh? Sweet.... Gotta get more...now where was that thread? hmmm.....

That one does look like a waterfall, very cool whatever it is. Those turned out really nice Dan. And BTW, I sure don't see any problem with posting them here, not everyone has a grinding unit so free-forms should be allowed too.

I really don't consider these 'cabs' because by comparison they don't come close to the quality of the true cabs i've seen posted here. So i always hesitate to post them in this section.... I am refreshed to hear someone else mention the difference between "tumbled" cabs and "real" cabs. I get so excited to see nice hand domed and polished cabs. At so many of the shows you find "go-Zillions" of flat top machine polished (aka tumbled) cabs. I have to admit that (I don't mean to hurt any feelings) tumbled cabs really disappoint me. It's only shaping a piece of rock to me. I love the high dome of a nicely worked cabochon, or a well shaped cabochet, with it's sharp edges and clean look. Sorry if I p-oed anyone, I guess it's the "old fashioned" leaking out of me! Fatty

That's ok to have your opinion and preferences. No difference than having a preference for a certain kind of rock. I guess I enjoy it because that's all I can do too so to any others, don't let this stop you from posting your pics ... I'll stilll be looking and making them the same way too.

It's all good Ritchie...I titled the post that way 'cause I understand the difference....
....And don't worry Cher...I'll keep posting pics of my tumble polished freeforms...
I have a batch turning right now that I think would be very difficult to reproduce on a Cab grinder... long, deep concave curves...I'll post 'em soon...
